Super Bowl: Someday PDF Print E-mail

I have put off posting any news from the Vikings organization since the end of the season.  I have been awaiting some sort of concrete news of a move to drastically improve this team.

What we got?  Squat.  Sure, we got a vanilla quarterback for a vanilla offense.   Vanilla + vanilla = SuperBowl?   Un-frickin-likely.

As I dole out my latest installation of frustration dollars for season tickets at the Retro-Dome I am as fed up as I can be.

I can understand letting go a few aging stars like Birk or Sharper.

Tell me you will fix it in the hit-or-miss draft?   Right.

This team is in need of a serious ass-kicking to get it off the line this year and all signs point towards more money for waxing Childress' dome than expending serious efforts on real stars.  Why are Birk and Sharper gone, two serious athletes with talent?  To pursue teams that are closer to the real deal than this team.   Sure, young players hungry for NFL playtime and experience are jumping to play here, but those in the know are stepping to other cities.

Welcome to the Chill Zone, Zygi.  Its not getting any better, and each time I lick the envelope to send you another chunk of change for an overpriced NFL ticket I become more likely than not to demand satisfaction. Today.  Not three years from now.  This fan base pays more than most fans per seat in stadium to stadium experience yet get the same half-assed efforts year in and year out under Childress.   Barely popping in the playoffs means nothing, for those of you keeping score.  Tice had less than half the staff, far lower payroll, and questionable talent at best and accomplished more in his years with his sweatervest than the great "chess player" has done with unlimited expenditures.

I want some serious effort this year for wins.  Not more BS about how long it takes a coach to take a shell of a franchise--with which a previous coach made a damn good run. That this coach needed all these years and money to post worse records and far more questionable strategy on the field.

Its time to step up.  We will back you for a stadium, but this team needs to look like it has leadership and not spend more years yammering about the special attributes of some KAO that has failed to appear despite the best two-tandem running attack in the game.

Why do I continue as a Vikings fan?  Because it is the purple blood coursing through my veins and the desperate hope that someone at Winter Park wakes up and takes a giant shiny boot after the coaching staff.

SKOL Vikings.  GET IT DONE.

You have summed up every fan's frustration and unrest perfectly and capped it with three simple words...GET IT DONE.

Sounds like most of the fans on here in regards to Chilly, but I like most of what he has done so far. Yeah Tice did more, but thats like saying Marvin Lewis has done well taking the Bengals to the playoffs, once. Chilly had a big job putting all these egos on the team in check. I think after last season we can finally expect something big or Chilly can be reasonably canned.

Ilike these comments, This team has had one franchise quarterback in 48 years. Fran Tarkenton hung up his cleats in 1978. They had a chance to get Cassel and blew it. Now they have a chance to get Cutler....Jackson and Rosenfels are not franchise passers. Thats why Houston traded him for a forth rounder. Also. Who will play center?

Well said indeed!...I am no Brad Childress fan and you can take that to the bank...but I do need to point out something that has stuck with me ever since I read it....The Vikings under Childress have improved from a dismal 6-10 to 10-6 in three years...It never sunk in until I read it...Do I think Childress is a good coach, not at all, but something has started to click with the Vikings, and I hope that Sage will be the answer for the rest...but as a true Viking fan I am pumped up for the upcoming draft, and the regular season to get underway...but had I been signing those paychecks, Jay Cutler would very likely be fishing in one of Minnesota's 10,000+ lakes right now....

This new owner does everything right except listen to mister monotone. Isnt it funny how these offensive coaches (Billick, and Childress) end up with less than zero offense and the best defenses in the game? Why hasn't Ziggy talked to Shannohan or Gruden or any of the big 4 out there? I mean he has the loot and has proved to be willing to get tallent.

Sums up the frustration all of us feel with our beloved team, whether the source of that frustration at one time or other is the ownership, coaching staff, the players, lack of a stadium deal or a top-10 QB, clock management, all of the above, or other reasons too numerous to mention. The point is we are so close now that we can taste it, but we don't have confidence in our coach and staff to bring us to the big dance...and that is very frustrating indeed. Some things in life are meant to be approached in a methodical manner, but not the trip to the Super Bowl!

Wow... here's a thing that Childress has made: "Built a team". The Vikings are ready for this and many years to come, today you can count with your fingers the needs, something that didn't happen before. You can say what you want, but Cutler nor Cassel are saviors. You win with a team, it's all that matters. Stop whining.

Well said. Yes Childress has improved his record but the missing key element is QB. The teams we have lost stars to have viable QBs and I anticipate we lose more key players in years to come. We have our shot now. A quality QB is likely the answer. Unfortunately, the Vikes decision to nix the Culter trade talks only solidifies that Chilly is still sold on Tarvaris. Even if TJ has a breakout season, I will not be sold on him. Remember Culpepper? I can only pray that Sage steps it up big time and proves he is the starter from day one and plays his butt off for the next 6 years. Only then will I eat crow.

i am sick of all this. the vik's are a QB away from super bowl. i would rather have had garcia over sage. age is one difference which sage is younger, but garcia is a much much better QB. sage has thrown 30TD's and 29Int's. i would rather have garcia for 2-3 years then sage for 4-6 (if he last that long). CUTLER should be our focus. GO GET HIM. Childress is a waste, i would rather have billick or denny green back. childress this QB specialist only specializes in pissing vik's fans off. get a clue pal and go back to being a coordinator. one more year of heart break.

Yes I agree fully , I have been a fan as long as I can remember and I feel your pain. Its like, cmon, wake up, we can do this people, but the people at the top just wont make the moves.

I feel this season might be our last chance at a Ring before hitting another rebuilding stage.

Man are you serious? You are upset they let Birk and Sharper go?? Sharper made less plays last year than I can ever remember. His experienced will be missed, but his production can easily be beat. I thought Birk was one of the best in the league. But he is overrated. Anybody that spends as much time double teaming Hutch's guy as he did must be losing his skills. Thats what we call a stupid tax!!! Hutch is fine one-on-one. Go help Cook or Herrera. This is no loss. Cook or Sullivan will be just fine. The leadership again will be missed but its definitely a change for the better and cheaper.
