So in summary I want to sign Thomas DeCoud FS, Richard Marshall CB, Dan Connor LB, Laurent Robinson WR, Brodrick Bunkley DT, and Kellen Davis TE. I would let all the remaining free agents hit the market. I would release Hutchinson, Herrera, and Griffin.
Hey Marr! Where ya been!??? Happy Off Season Brother!!
I gotta keep this quick, I've got lots of work to do today...get back to the rest later.
But, that seems to be a lot of FA signings...then again, we look to be losing a lot of FAs ourselves. I think he's spot-on with the idea that we like kids coming off their first contract who have experience, but potential to grow too. And, that we'll likely be shooting for mid-tier guys. We don't have a ton of extra cap, we're rebuilding, and most football players don't think of MN as their first option of where they'd like to live these days. I know, I know, sad but true!
DeCoud is off the market. Carr isn't likely to land in MN with DAL likely more willing to spend. I like Richard Marshall because of his versatility between CB/S. With all the DBs we've seen miss time lately, he'd be nice insurance at the very least, if not an upgrade at starting S. I'm not sure how much of an upgrade we can expect to land at CB in FA. In today's pass-first league, CBs are at a premium, and we could very likely see some surprise contenders for their services.
Of all our biggest needs, I think WR is where we're most likely to land some help in FA. Jackson is a beast, but I'm afraid somebody is going to seriously overpay for his commitment/sanity level. But, Laurent Robinson could be a great pickup at a more reasonable price. Reggie Wayne, Pierre Garcon, Colston, and maybe even Meachum might also be enough of an upgrade to improve Ponder and all his other weapons.
So, as much as I like Stephen Hill or Alshon Jeffrey at the top of the 2nd, my gut feeling is we may be better off targeting a top Safety or top-five CB with that pick. Perhaps? Move up a few slots for Mark Barron?
I'm very interested to see what kind of players da Vikes are in this year's free agency...we havn't done shit there for years. I certainly hope we land a few starters tho! If not, if all we sign is fodder/filler guys, I'm going to be a lil scared about the future (5 years or so) of the franchise!! D'oh!
The draft I'm less worried about. We seem almost sure (barring some stellar fuck up we've been known to perform from time to time) to land good players who are most likely immediate contributors with our first two picks. Those early 3rd and 4ths will still hold some nice potential too. And, we've got some extra late picks to play with if we feel the need to move around a lil.
Last year sucked, but now we're sitting in a pole position for rounding up some young talent. Goona be a fun few months coming up here, as we see the new Minnesota Vikings coming together!!
