what about signing Mike Tolbert?
He may want more money than the Vikings want to give him but he's at least worth a look. He's got the same wrecking ball style of running that Gerhart plays with and it would keep the Vikings from needing a designated fullback (D'Imperio hasn't impressed me all too much, good, but not jaw dropping) and you could design a three back package for third downs.
Plus it would definitely help in the beginning of the 2012 season with AD probably still in the final stages of recovery and who knows how far Gerhart will be along with his own recovery.
anyone agree?
I hadn't thought about it, but I think Tolbert would be a good investment for the Vikings. From what I remember of him with the Chargers, he was really tough to tackle. If both AD and Toby are dinged, this could be a good move for the Vikings. Can Spielman agree with this, however?
There are a lot of solid running backs that will hit the market and it is definitely a spot we should consider trying to nab a player for.
I would not love the idea of drafting one, but we do have a ton of picks and if there is one that we like that we can get value on ... pulling the trigger there would not bother me too much.
I personally think that AD and Toby will be ready come game one. But AD might not be "game ready" and will still need to get his legs in order for a few weeks before taking a serious load. I would not hate seeing us try to land even someone like Cedric Benson ... or the previously mentioned Tolbert.
Other interesting options include Michael Bush, LT and Peyton Hillis.
Lamicheal James in the 3rd. Hes a perfect match
I want Hillis.
