Then there are players that play at a high level that they seldom use. Case in point: Kyle Rudolph. There were games were they did it with Harvin as well.
Rudolph was a rookie, with Shank and Kleinsasser also being on the roster limited some of his use, as for Harvin IMHO he was burntout in the first half of games by using him at rb, slot and a returner (also seem to recall an article about limiting his reps to prevent the migraines).

As for the free agents he was part of the triangle but how far back are you going with this, to Fred Smoot? Since 2006 when he came here some big ticket players have been brought in like Favre, Allen or Hutch, while Madieu Williams and Bernard Berrian have been a reach but I don't recall them being great before they arrived.

Spielman never did. Rather, he was mystified how others couldnt see the brilliance of his decisions. In his own world, he was a genius.
Oh NOOOOO!! Its Childress all over again!?!?!?!??? ;0

That bothers me too, but in Harvin's case you always wonder about the migraines too...did he say something on the sideline that made coaches nervous? Rudolf will be a starter this year, Jimmy K is gone and Shank won't be back unless he accepts a moderate contract.

The only draft I'm grading Spielman on is last year's. Chiller clearly had final say in the previous ones and the Williamson-James fiasco can most properly be blamed on McDickCombs for cutting our staff to spiderweb thin before he sold us.

Even tho nobody wanted to admit it, our rebuilding started last year, And, not having an offseason/free agency made it important to get more late picks last year than most. Spielman did that and we got some potential with those 4 6th round picks. Too early to tell for sure, but he did what was needed, so, Not Bad first draft.

Spielmans first draft with the Vikings was 2007 so he wasn't there for the James/Williamson draft and 2006 was the year Foley and Chilly had some issues and Tjack was picked that year....Foley was later shown the door over padding his resume and Spielman was brought in.
