A Question For You Purple People

We have a discussion going on over at a Packers site about Rodgers and what his value would be. We have one camp that thinks that the other camp is made up out of a bunch of extreme homers because it wouldn't take this trade.

Aaron Rodgers for the Rams' 1st, 2nd and 3rd this year.

    What say you, Vikes fans?

I don't think it would be a good idea for the Packers. Who would be their QB? There are too many question marks about the QBs in this draft to give up a franchise guy for picks. Combine that with the fact that the Packers already have no depth at QB, and I think it could potentially set the franchise back several years. That being said...I say go for it!!!

No player is worth that amount. And if they were, no team would be willing to trade for them. You're losing 2 draft picks which probably result in starting players, and a potential starter in the 3rd rounder.

I'd say a likely trade of that magnitude would be more like swapping 1st round picks, you receive their 2nd or 3rd, and they get Rodgers.

The #1 overall pick is so incredibly valuable. They are potentially getting a player better than Aaron Rodgers who is 21-22 years old.

Rodgers is a great young QB. However, the #1 overall pick, the #33 pick, and the #65 overall picks are immensely valuable. Especially in this deep of a draft class.

All 8 of your draft picks probably don't add up to their #1 overall according to the draft value chart(which is kind of BS, but the only real way to measure this kind of thing.)A proven veteran is obviously a plus in any trade, especially at QB, but they also have to consider the situation he'd be put into.

The Packers have Driver, Jennings, Finley, Grant, depth at WR, a mediocre offensive line, and a solid defense.

    The Rams have Steven Jackson.

If they were to give up their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd picks they'd have Rodgers and Jackson.

That kind of trade offer puts them in position to improve one position, or three. I'd take the three, especially considering I have pick of the litter at #1.

To get that many picks I think you would have to have a bidding war for Rodgers, say Bucs, Browns and/or Chiefs start stirring things up. I could see a 1 and 3rd this year or a 1st and a pick next year based on stats 2nd or 3rd happening....if it was too. If you have Rodgers get a another season like the last 2 and add a playoff win he'll could demand blockbuster trade interest but its hard to find teams to over pay like the Bears. I think the other problem for paying that much for Aaron is Jason Campbell could be available, he's no Rodgers but he put up numbers on a flaky team that's had several different offensives changes and could be nabbed say a 2nd round pick.

Other thing I have a small problem seeing the Rams pay that much in picks is they have current ownership issues.

Then again if the Jags hired Matt Millen next year as their GM you could probably get all but ther first rounder as he'd want to get a receiver with that

The discussion isn't really whether the Rams should or shouldn't make this trade. As a rebuilding franchise, some extra picks would be great. You don't get the chance to trade for a franchise QB too often, though.

Thing is, is that what Rodgers' worth? A 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd? If you where the Packers and got this call, would you make the trade?

    In a heart beat.

Like I said before, the #1 overall pick, #33, and #65 are tremendously valuable.

Add that to the Packers current picks and they have 11 overall, with 6 in the first 3 rounds.

That's recipe for a monster draft class.

I agree with that, if the phone rang and those picks were offered, take it.

I would probably not trade Rodgers for 1, 33 and 67 (I think).

I mean ... that would give you 5 draft picks in the first 67 of the draft, but I still don't know how comfy I would be parting with a guy who can be the face of your franchise for the next 10 years.

I would be tempted though. To get Bradford and then get three more picks by the end of the second round? Would be a tough decision. But I would say no.

I wouldn't trade Rodgers right now unless the deal was just too good to pass up. 1st, 2nd and 3rd pick is pretty tempting. He is about to come into his prime as a player. We saw what that guy can do last year with and without good OL blocking. I would say if you were rebuilding maybe. But right now the Packers are ready and imo superbowl contenders.

Rodgers is a great QB and he will be pissing off us Viking fans for a long time. The Packers are ready right now with a steller defense and pretty good weapons on the offense. If the OL is secured the Packers just may be the team to beat in the NFC. Of course that is talking without the purple shades on.
