I like how you guys are pretty much unanimously posotive about our draft. The Packer fans themselfs are very mixed. Mainly because we gave up a 2nd and two 3rd for a move up of 15 spots. I really like Matthews though and I'm glad we passed up on Crabtree and took Raji. Would've loved to have had Beatty when he dropped aswell. Good steal for the Giants.

I like the Lions draft alot aswell. I asume they're going to groom Stafford for a year, but their offense is becoming pretty good already. Especially if theit 1st round LT from last year, Cherilus, is progressing like he should. I don't know if I'd have taken Pettigraw over Oher. Or pass on a guy like Unger with the 33rd pick, but hey, they're the NFL franchise, I'm the guy talking crap on a forum.
    Barely.

    Re: Packers Draft

I like the draft for the fact they got a HUGE upgrade at starting OLB, NT, and FB....virtually the only open spots that could be won......

sure it was a reach to give the pats 3 picks to get up there but who cares we got a bunch of 2-3rd prospects in the 4th and 5th,

and i'm glad we don;t have all these useless picks that we don;t even need to keep on the roster......

oh and the icing on the cake is that we got Matthews and Johnson who are arguable the top 2 special teamers in this draft...

and matthews is easily the biggest SP Demon to come out this year....

\/ oh and if ur looking at my Sig, the answer is no, you still don't got a receiver \/

I am actually not all that high on the Bears draft at all ... and I really don't think the Lions did that good (I personally like Stafford, but outside of that not a huge draft IMO). I mean the Lions draft looks ok considering the names, but I think they passed on a WR for too long and I am not a huge fan of Delmas or Levy.
I do think the Packers did really well with Raji falling in their lap, but I am not that sold on Matthews. I like the Lang and Johnson picks though.
All in all though ... I think our draft matches up fairly favorably to any of these teams.

So you think FB was one of our needs? Last time I checked, we had two very capable ones on the roster already. The only thing I can imagine is Kuhn being kicked off the team, while Johnson will be our mauling run blocker and Hall being the more finesse FB or so. Then again, we could keep Kuhn for short yardage or so and let Hall go. It's still a mystery to me.

I somewhat agree with you about the 'bunch of prospects'. In my opinion, we didn't need tons of depth and we could afford to make a trade up to first round, giving up quite alot. On the other side, look at Greg Jennings, Nick Collins, Brandon Jackson, etc. etc.

I don't think that we shouldn't have made this trade, but you can't downplay the impact those 2nd and 3rds had on our team either.

    Re: Packers Draft

Impressed with the responses.. I think all teams in the NFCN did well for themselves.

Bears got a ton of value for not having a day one pick.

The lions seem to be doing business a little differently, maybe life post Millen will turn around for them. Levy, albeit some say he was taken too early can play ball.. just needs to become more consistent in his angles and reads.

The Vikes.. Harvin to me is a boom or bust type player on every snap, watching him at Florida he brought electricity to the field.. yes some off field concerns, but hell we took one at 9.. my only question with the kid is will he be able to get off the LOS when out wide? Can he get free quick enough from the jamb by the corner. But all in all, he should provide excitement on an offense that needs some from somebody not named Taylor or Peterson.

Loadholt is a monster of a man.. you should have bookends now.. can he handle the NFL pass rush would be the question. Allen is super aggressive and plays the ball well.. Brinkley is another thumper to team with EJ.. don't know much about Sanford.. but possible depth at Safety can't hurt.

As for the Packers.. since this is their thread..

Raji should provide another anchor in the middle to rotate with Pickett.. allowing both to slide around as well. Red flags in his past.. hopefully they are behind him.

Matthews just seems to keep improving over time, I will admit I think we overpaid to move to the spot, but the draft broke right for us to get some quality later in the draft.

Studied Lang and Meredith at length last night.. Lang can flat out technically play the position inside or out on the line.. suburb footwork, balance and extension... could develop into a very solid to excellent player along the line.. question is do you play him outside and utilize is footwork or inside and utilize his technique and punch?

Meredith shouldn't have been there for us in this draft, his talent on the field completely out exceeds that position in this draft.. but his college coaches disliked the kid, rebellious and very moody. But showed up to play on Saturday's.. loner on the team, teammates reportedly didn't get along with him either. Coaches and Teammates hated Charles Haley as well.. and he played very well on Sundays. So it can work.. maybe.

Quinn Johnson should give us a thumper in the running game to run behind in short yardage and situational's next season.. Special teamer to start with, developing.. unwritten book as a runner or receiver as that was how they used him at LSU.

Wynn is a "Where does he fit pick".. 6'2" 273.. not big enough to anchor the 3-4 end.. and not fast enough to play the backer.. (5.03 40)

Underwood is a special teamer to grow into a player.. can play both S and CB.. fast but lacks ball skills and closing instincts..

Sleeper of the draft for us is this Jones kid.. fast rangy backer that flew around Boulder.. he is my project to study tonight / this week.. first impressions is that he is a player that can be developed.. sneaky type player that may surprise at some point in the future.. but I need to study him more yet.. just first blush.

September yet? We need a summer developmental league.. fringe NFL player type league with extended rosters for some of the UDFA to develop. Oh and for my football fix.. lol.

Whatever you say man. Berrian is solid, Harvin is a beast, Rice is entering his third year (typically when WRs shine), and Wade is very reliable.

And the Packers don't have a RB

Have you seen the guns on Harvin. He bulked up since college. 19 reps at the combine. He will have no problem beating the press. Especially Al Harris little ass.

    You mean Ali Harris?

I thought Peterson made him into a bitch last year?

Not trying to "badmouth" the Harvin pick.. just watching him in college, he seemed to struggle in that aspect of the game from what I remember..
