The moon is no BFD, but "Buckwheat" is hardly a racial comment.

The WORD "Buckwheat" might not be a racial comment on its own, but it may be offensive to many African-Americans as a STEREOTYPE...Bill Cosby is so offended by the stereotype that he bought the rights to all the Little Rascals episodes and LOCKED them in his vault, never to be seen again...think about it, have you seen any Little Rascals reruns on TV lately...that is why. Also, the use of the term "Buckwheat" by the Packer fans was clearly meant to be offensive on some level...maybe not PURELY racial, but it was a racial reference nonetheless. They were classless and insensitive to say the least...Moss's actions pale by comparison...it was the fact that Fox couldn't control the content that pissed them off more than anything.

Let's face it, Moss did look like Buckwheat. Cosby is a hypocrite.... he has no prob making millions off of his character Fat Albert. I guess saying that Grady Jackson resembles Fat Albert would be racist too?

Cosby used Fat Albert to try and instill positive values to his fellow African-Americans...there was always a moral at the end. Yes, he used some stereotypes in his cartoon, but he always tried to caricature them so that people realized that they were outlandish. He also showed us that no matter how different his characters looked, deep down they were no different than the rest of us...and he never tried to use any of his characters to promote racist agendas. What the Packer fans were doing when they called Moss "Buckwheat" was trying to taunt him...and they were using it in a negative and racist way. As far as Grady Jackson resembling Fat Albert, it depends on how the comparison is used...if it is malicious, then yes it is racist...if it is one of his friends or somebody close to him, then it is probably not. Context is way more important than the reference itself.

There is absolutely nothing in the article that sheds light on the situation at all. It's all beat reporter fluff.

    This writer is a joke.

"Buckwheat"? It's a good thing they didn't call him "Stymie". Would have been all kind of hell breaking out if that had happened....lol
