Jim Marshall shows man-love toward Favre

I posted this same article over in the Mercury Morris thread....but then read the last line and figured it's worth a reposting so a few can get their panties all wadded up.

Ex-Viking Jim Marshall: '72 Dolphins Wouldn't Get a First Down Against the Patriots'
Posted Jan 31st 2008 7:59AM
by Michael David Smith

...Marshall, who never missed a game from 1960 to 1979, said that in his view, the Steelers of the 1970s were a better team than the Dolphins of the 1970s. He also said that he hopes Packers quarterback Brett Favre plays the 30 more games in a row he needs to pass Marshall's streak of 282 consecutive starts.

"I hope Favre passes me," Marshall said. "I have so much respect for him."

With all respect to Jim Marshall, I hope Farve doesn't pass him with the consecutive start streak.

Reading between the lines, there's a lot not said or left out of this story...like where does he think the Vikings of the 70's fit into the mix.

I have less of a problem with what he said about respecting Favre than about the '72 Dolphins not getting a first down against the Patriots...I understand he's exaggerating, but that's a bit much.

But I definitely agree the 70's Steelers were a better team than the 70's Dolphins.

Re: Jim Marshall shows man-love toward Favre

I think the respect is very mutual, Favre as mentioned it a couple times how he thinks that Marshall's streak is greater than his due to position played. Two great players.

On the greatest teams, era's of the game make it a difficult comparison.. but I still think the 85' Bears defense could have played with any offense.. even now.
But I also agree that the Steelers were a better team than the Fins.
