Fear and Loathing in Packer land
They haven't even played their first pre-season game and the cheese faithful is already looking for scapegoats. Some excerpts from a Packer forum at JSOnline:
In the end I blame this all on Tightwad Thompson, He's not willing to spend
money needed to get important players I don't think he understands GB's
winning tradition. I have the worst feeeling about this year than any other year.
I'm not bailing out.. its just a gut feeling.
----------------------------------------------------------
I don't blame TT - although I'm not particularly enamoured with this past draft - I blame Sherman.
The Packers have invested an awful lot of draft picks on the defensive side of the ball - and, most of them can't play. That's Sherman's fault and the fault of the scouting dept.
Beyond that, TT inherited a salary cap mess from Sherman. Yes, he could restructure some deals and make a reasonable splash in free agency, but would it be enough to get the Packers over the hump??? I don't think so... there just isn't enough of a young talent base to justify bringing in cap eating vets.
------------------------------------------------------------
Let's face it, Teddy is throwing Mike Sherman under the bus this year, and is focusing on life after Sherman.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
He's not throwing Sherman under the bus, he's just not spending a lot of money to get the brakes fixed.

I don't fault them for pointing blame. We pointed blame at Red for years. The inactivity by the Packers this offseason is a major contributing factor to their sphincter factor.

The Pack faithful calling us out as fair weather fans, we'll see what happens when they are 2 - 6...."Johnson, we will keep on beating them until morale improves."

As much as I HATE to admit this, (and cajun i know you remember the trash I talked recently) after talking with Pack fans like myself over the course of the off-season, there is definetly a fear of the Vikings this year among Pack fans. Even I am worried.
The Vikings defense is definetly intimidating and I'm starting to finally get convinced it's gonna be good enough to overtake the Pack.

Some learn fast and some learn slow. We told the world the offense would be good without Moss an we ar right. The defense is looking very good also. Re: Fear and Loathing in Packer land
Of course they're pointing fingers...we did too. How many threads did I see blaming Red *chokes goats* McCombs or Mike Tice for the Vikings failings? A lot.
It doesn't mean they aren't dedicated fans, any more than when we were unhappy with our management. It simply means that they recognize that their team isn't what it used to be, and are looking for solutions where none immediately exist.
They buried their heads in the sand for as long as they possibly could with their, "But we have FAVRE" mantra...now even that is falling flat. Believe me, I'm surrounded by them, the smell of fear is thick in the air.
However, everytime you slag them, they do fight back....not very well, mind you...but at least they try. The bandwagon jumpers will be gone about mid-season. Anyone left after that is a true fan. They'll still be there...just a lot quieter.

And don't think this divison will be handed to you. The "We've got Favre" thing isn't falling flat yet. You've got the advantage, but we've got Favre. Roll your eyes all you want, but the fact is he has carried this team and conditions as bad as this and I won't count us out until Favre is gone.
