Vikings like 'special' running back
Will they draft Peterson with their top pick?
BY DON SEEHOLZER

"Adrian Peterson's a special guy," Childress said. "He's got superlatives in terms of speed and size and those kind of things, but there's going to be a lot of good players there in and around seven. There's just so many different scenarios that can happen right now. You're looking at all the different trade possibilities. I think you just have to familiarize yourself with all those guys and know about those guys."
Thanks to PPE for the sig.

...The biggest concern about Peterson is his upright running style which has led to a series of injuries. The question is whether he's just doomed to be hurt or unlucky.

Closing in on the draft, hopefully closing in on Adrian Peterson being drafted by the Vikes
..
Did a little research, Chester signed a 4 year contract with us, has 3 years left..
So its not like Adrian Peterson would have to sit for 6 or 7 years..

It was mentioned that injury problems and an up-right running style have been two of the knocks against Peterson, who visited with the Vikings last Friday at Winter Park. “Those are a couple of the issues,†Childress said. “The other issues are the fact he’s an explosive athlete, has great measurables and has played the game at a high level for a long period of time. It’s a high-collision industry as a running back. Those are a couple of matters. Which one do you weigh more heavily? Those are discussions we are going through right now.â€

It's clear that Childress knows the positives on Peterson.
Unlike fans who overlook them, Childress and the other members of the Vikings coaching staff are not overlooking the negatives on Peterson.
And they must have spent a lot of time looking at CTaylor to find a good RB and offer him a 4 year deal rather than a 2-3 year deal.
That implies they saw enough to know he would very likely perform well, and that they had confidence that he would be able to perform well for 4 years.
All the above points to a LOWER likelihood that the Vikings draft Peterson if they have a choice between him and a DE or Quinn.
If Peterson is the only player left deserving to be drafted at #7, he might be taken, or the Vikings might use the opportunity to trade back 2-5 slots.
When we stop to think about it, most folks behavior isn't perplexing after all !

Re: Yo, Adrian ........ (Adrian Peterson)
Nice find singersp. Im not sure what the vikings should do. I dont think G Adams will be there at 7, but if he is then perhaps we should go for him? I like Peterson, but this talk about his durability should be a concern for us. We have some pressing needs but i do believe in the philosophy of BPA if there is too much of a drop off at a need. Ive lways said lets trade down but again it seems thats gonna be trickier than previously perceived.
