would you wan Nnamdi Asomugha on the vikings?

Nnamdi is a free agent this offseason. would you want the vikings to make him the highest payed defensive player in league history or would you want the vikings to go in a different direction?

I personally would love to see him on the vikings. He would totally shut down one side of the field and would neutralize the opposing teams top receiver.

    No.

I have nothing against his talent ans we certainly need help there but I am ready to see if this staff can build a roster through the people that they draft instead of breaking the bank on a guy some other staff has developed.

When Wilf brought in Childress he allowed them to bring in FA's to build the roster and give the team a jump start toward a championship. This is now a staff that is no longer in it's rookie season so to speak and they need to be able to identify talent in the draft and train them to be productive in the system they end op deploying.

I want to see them find some gems in the later rounds that end up being productive starters for a time without having to overspend to get them.

Simply put ... There is no overspending on a talent like Asomugha. No reason you can't draft well and have the best corner in the game.

There is no cover corner as highly regarded by his peers and the analysts as Nnamdi ... And that includes Revis. Nnamdi is an excelltn tackler, a premier cover corner and has the ability to totally dominate a game.

It would be a bak breaker though and if it means we cannot sign other people and will deplete us too much in that regard, then obviously go in a different direction. But if we can lock up Leber, Greenway and Nnamdi for the next few years to go with what we already have in place ... Our defense would be dominant.

There is no way signing him wouldn't jeopardize signing other key players and yes it will be a bank breaker. He is also 30 years old and for anyone playing that position not a good candidate for a high dollar long term contract.
It would be a better move to trade up in the draft and take the top rookie imho but I wouldn't eveb do that.

Unless we change coverage schemes I don't think a corner in our scheme would be worth what Nnamdi's contract demands will be.

he wouldn't be a good fit in our system... he's a great man to man corner, but from what I've seen he's an average tackler and an average zone corner at best. The cover 2 system demands corners that are great tacklers and great zone defenders. It would be like trying to put Deion Sanders into our system... just wouldn't work. Remember the last man to man "cover" corner we had... Smoot... enough said

I dont think that is true at all. we are clearing alot of money off the books by not resigning Favre and possibly cutting a few other players. Not to mention there might not be a cap this year, and even if there is we will be well below it. Sign Greenway, Rice and Leber and bring in the free agents.

It is easy to say he wouldnt fit in our defense but nobody really knows until he tries it. Hell he might be better then Winfield in the cover 2. And last but not least, who cares how old he is? Did you here the stats on him this year? In 14 games played the opposing team only completed 13 passes his way. Not bad for a thirty year old.
