Worst off season FA ever?
I personally cant remember a worse off season since i started to watch the vikes. We signed Sage? Bog friggin deal. He will be lucky to beat Tjoke out of a spot. We missed on all good QBs and WRs.
We will not get an AD type starter this draft. We may get someone to backup but thats it. Im very dissapointed.
Can any of you old timers remember a worse off season?
Re: Worst off season FA ever?
Sometimes its better not to be making these big moves.
Great teams usually build from the draft.
Those who make big FA moves like the Redskins get nowhere.
Last year we made huge moves, so this year we are just taking a bit of a step back from the big bidding wars.
The FA class was not that great this year either and we did make a play for TJ but it just didnt work out.
I wouldnt want to pay him that kind of money anyway.
Im not extremely but I am not upset by any means.
The only move I have some complaints about is letting Birk go, but I can kind of understand.
Who knows what happen with Cutler too.
Maybe we do something about that but I doubt it.
You cant make huge FA moves every single year or your franchise will be ruined, unless you are the patriots who
can get whoever they want for a bargain price since they have the rings to attract players.

The sky is falling the sky is falling
::)
The thing I'm mostly disappointed about this offseason is not signing Jeff Garcia and missing out on Birk. Garcia could have been a really good addition for a season or two, I thought.
With that said I don't think this is a disastrous offseason. I don't think the team needs to go on a FA shopping spree every year.

Yes.
After Gary Anderson missed the FG vs the Falcons,
after Drew Pearson pushed off to catch the Hail Mary,
after Darrin Nelson dropped a TD pass vs the Redskins in the Playoffs,
after all four Super Bowl losses,
Les Steckel being named HC,
Red McCombs buying the Team...
this is nothing

Re: Worst off season FA ever?
I don't remember the FA class but the draft class of 2005 is enough to make it worse than this.
Re: Worst off season FA ever?
Moving to L.A. witll make this look like nothing
Re: Worst off season FA ever?
We still have Tarvaris Jackson at starting QB. This is the best off-season since the 60's. Aside from getting a second decent receiver, I couldn't be happier.
Re: Worst off season FA ever?
The Vikings have made offers and inquiries towards top tier talent this off season, they(Vikings) just aren't willing to risk another Dallas-Walker trade fiasco.
We've had worse.
If Childress doesn't produce this season he's outta' here and once again we can start anew.
I personally believe the Vikings will improve but not necessarily advance.
In short... we'll be okay.

You seem so sure, even obsessed with the idea that the Vikings are coming to L.A.
What do you know?
Re: Worst off season FA ever?
Missed on all the good QBs and WRs?
What QBs were really available? Garcia? Everyone else required trades.
WRs? Houshmandzadeh? Engram?
There was no one "good" available besides Housh. TO doesn't count, he's obviously a good(great) receiver, but not a guy we would/should have brought in.
If you should be concerned about anything it is our lack of aggressiveness going for offensive linemen. We lost a veteran pro-bowl starter at center and still have a former center playing RT. Jordan Gross, Tauscher, Marvel Smith, Jason Carey, Stacy Andrews were all upgrades over Cook(who might still develop,) but if we want this offense to succeed with mediocre QB play and horrendous playcalling we need a lot of time from the OL.
And I've said this about a million times this offseason, it doesn't matter what QB and WRs we sign, the offense is still gonna struggle with Childress calling the plays. IMO at this point it's just a matter of bringing in talent for the next head coach(or maybe just the next OC if Childress can accept the fact he can't manage an offense.) Hopefully Spielman and the FO sees that as well and brings in a solid draft class.
