Like many I myself was shocked with choosing Tyrell Johnson because there was little media attention on him. I wondered why move up?
Tyrell Johnson's mother is Patricia Johnson a champion sprinter and his father was Alvin Roberstson a 4 time All-Star in the NBA. When he was younger he decided to take on football because of his height, now 6 FT 207. In high school he got 3 INT's, 2,725 yds rushing,
and 49 TD's. He also played basketball starting on the state championship team, also ran track. In college he totaled 363 tackles, 13 INT's and 4 FF in four years. Last year he had 94 tackles, 6 INT's and 2 FF. Graduate with a degree in Computer Information Technology.
At the combine he performed like a champ, running 4.41, bench pressing 225 lb's 27 times blowing the rest of DB's away. Also was first in Broad jump recording 10'7". In the drills he turned and ran with smooth hips just as good as any of the CB's at the combine. He told one reporter that conditioning, training and preperation are his lifestyle. He did awesome in his interviews, Childress called him
articulate and a good communicator. His Junior year they played a championship game in which he recorded 25 tackles. Against Tenessee last year he had 2 INT's. Showed up big in big games playing great against Texas also. When all was said and done both Mike Mayock and Mel Kiper had him #1.
Not even Tyrell new we were intrested but we had him at #17 on our total board. I'm extremely exited to get him ocording to our staff he was mid first round talent. The Bears picked at 44, Minnesota knowing the bears had brought in Tyrell in for a visit they quickly swapped picks with Philly and drafted him at 43.

He's a star in the making, I believe had he played for the Hurricanes the Giants would have selected him. He looks more like Ed Reed that Kenny Phillips. Will be a imediate contributor on Specail teams and Childress mention him doing some things in the return game. Watch his pics in the video and see how good of an open field runner he is.
UPDATE: Didn't mention his vertical of 32 inches at the combine but at his pro day he jumed 39 inches. He ran a 4.44 and 4.41 at the combine. He says he's a 4.3 guy. Most of his combine #'s and production #'s are better than last years Laron Landry.

Awesome info. I cannot wait to see him play. I REALLY hope we stole him from the Bears.
This deserves it's own thread.

Very nice group of links to take a gander at there. I think we are going to be pretty happy with this guy in the long run.
Re: Why Tyrell Johnson Is A Beast
Why he is a beast?, since when did you see a safety get 27! reps at the combine the most of any safety and proberly any defensive back, and that doest make him a slow guy, he ran a 4.41 also in the 40 yard dash.. This kid is amazing

Kind of makes me think of Robert Griffith.

Good work, TW...softens the blow of losing my dream of the Vikes drafting my homeboy, Doucet...unless the Vikes were to figure out some way to trade up and still fulfill my dream.
;)
