Re: Who is your late round gem?

Jared Fogle, Indiana Universtiy, team nutritionist, 7th round.
When we stop to think about it, most folks behavior isn't perplexing after all !

There has been quite a few threads started about this.....I started one myself. Most people don't know many late round projection players, so it usually just gets lost. But hey, maybe this one will go
that's probably cuz no one cares about these guys.
unless you have someone that turns out to be a marques colston nobody thinks these guys are gonna be around in a couple of years.
meanwhile if you draft well you can find a gem but isn't it basically just luck.
Actually many really good players have been selected in later rounds.

It is luck to some extent.....they still put allot of scouting into their later round picks....they don't just randomly pick a guy in later rounds. They still pick players that they think will impact their franchise the most and no, they don't think they won't be around in a few years. So I don't think that a successful late round pick is pure luck. EVERY player that is selected in the draft is drafted to make some kind of impact on his team.
    i know all that.
i'm just saying that most of the guys are all graded out and it's really just a crap shoot.
like finding a tom brady or something i would define as a real gem.
there's plenty of guys that end up servicable but to find a real stud is kinda like a wow moment.
it's hard for me to believe that when a team takes a player in like the 7th round and he turns out to be like a marques colston, that the team knew it all along, otherwise the guys would go earlier obviously.
so many factors go into it and there are so many players, to find a real real stud you mostly have to be lucky in those late rounds.

Childress should take a look at OT Mike Otto from Purdue. He is projected to go in the 4th round. He reminds me of Matt Light when he was in college. He has started all four years and is a fantastic pass-blocker.

I'd go for WR David Clowney, Virginia Tech.

Thanks to PPE for the sig.

Clowney has good speed, but he's too inconsistant when it comes to his hands.

Another sleeper is Mike Walker (WR, Central Florida). He's got good size, speed, hands, and is another potential steal in this draft.

    Thanks for the sig PurplePeopleEaters

    Hmm. Maybe so.

I'll try and throw another one out there:

    Kansas State receiver Yamon Figurs

    Also a speedy returnman

Thanks to PPE for the sig.

Where do you think David Ball from New Hampshire will go???
I'm thinking he's worth at least a 5th round pick on the chance he's anything like Jerry Rice (Who's collegiate records he broke!)
