    Who wants a Bentley??

Saints lineman has caught Minnesota's eye

    By Judd Zulgad, Star Tribune

Pro Bowl offensive lineman LeCharles Bentley appears to be near the top of the Vikings' wish list as they make plans to upgrade their line heading into the NFL free-agency period Friday.

Bentley is considered one of the top linemen available and would give the Vikings valuable versatility. A center at Ohio State, Bentley started at right guard for two seasons after being drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the second round in 2002. He was shifted back to center in 2004.

The Vikings, who are expected to have the most salary cap room of any NFL team (about $24 million), likely would use Bentley at right guard but also would have him as an insurance policy should center Matt Birk have any trouble after missing last season because of surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left hip. Adam Goldberg finished last season as the starter at right guard with Anthony Herrera at left guard.

A person with knowledge of the situation said the Vikings are "extremely interested" in Bentley.

Bentley, 26, has put together an impressive résumé in his time with the Saints, having been elected to the Pro Bowl in 2003 and last season. He was voted in as an alternate in 2004. He also was a near-unanimous choice for NFL all-rookie honors in 2002 and was named the NFL offensive rookie of the year by Sports Illustrated that season.

Bentley, who is 6-2, 313 pounds, has missed time because of injury in three of four seasons; he missed two games last season because of an elbow injury.

The Saints elected not to put a franchise or transition tag on Bentley, and he admitted to being disappointed the team did not try to sign him to a long-term deal.

The Vikings also are interested in San Diego left guard Kris Dielman, but he is a restricted free agent.

    Etc.

    • Although there has been speculation the Vikings are considering cutting offensive linemen Chris Liwienski and Mike Rosenthal and receiver Marcus Robinson, the agents for all three said they have heard nothing from the team about severing ties. "We expect Marcus to come back and compete," said Robinson's agent, Ken Sarnoff.

This would be an amazing pickup for us. Imagine Birk,Bentley and Two-ton Fonoti (if he loses weight) in the interior line. If there's anything we've learned from teams like Seattle and KC, its that you can dominate with any RB if the guys up front are doing a great job

I think this would be awesome.

Let him play RG, when or if Birk would go down or retire, Bently could slide on over.

If he can play two positions, then that is a definite plus. If he is willing to play 2 positions, then that is even better.

sounds great to me. i would much rather sign a guy than draft a guy. take someone already polished and good to go rather than have to groom a guy into the spot we need him.
    We're bringing purple back.

If that works out... that would have the potential to be an amazing O-line for someone like......oh lets say EDGE to run behind!!! March 3 is so close... Dear god don't let there be a collective bargaining agreement!!!

Lets get him!! That would be one step in the right direction. Correction, one BIG step in the right direction. Man, now I'm excited. I bet Moore can have a 1000 yards behind a line like that.

That assumes that we are going to be able to get a deal done with Fonoti. Also, the line would look a little nicer with someone like Runyan at RT, but if we sign Bentley I doubt we would sign another O-lineman.

    Chuch.

maybe Birk could move to guard..im sure that would be a little easier on his body not having to come out of a crouching stance all the time..either way, Bentley is a big time all pro caliber player..and if we added him to our O Line, we would be among the leagues elite pretty quickly

cutting marcus robinson? WHY!!?? cut Taylor, not Robinson! that is so stupid to cut our best TD producing receiver..that would eliminate any chance of us ever going for those almost sure thing jump balls in the redzone

robinson is getting up there in years and I'll give you his red zone ability, but he is our most expendable reciever in my opinion.
