We got robbed this entire draft.
    1) We traded back and lost the other CBs we actually wanted.
    2) We traded for a player that Houston didnt want. They had Tate rated higher and we gave away a shot at a great player in the 3rd for him. Are you telling me that 2 5ths and our 2nd wouldn't have made this deal work?
You are making way too much out of the trade with Houston.

    1) We traded the second to last pick in the third round, but we still have the second pick in the 4th round. There isn't a helluva lot of difference. You keep saying that we gave away a shot at a great player in the third - but in all actuality we have just as great of a shot at a great player in the early fourth.
    2) You keep saying that Houston had Tate rated higher, but where are you basing this? From the rumors and PR spin coming out of Houston. Hey, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I want to sell you. I highly doubt that they had Tate rated higher. Did they have Gerhart rated as high as we took him, probably not or they wouldn't have traded. But I don't buy the "We had Tate rated higher" for a second.

    Of course you would.

This has been a terrible draft... by the numbers. Perhaps Cook and Gerhart will prove to be worth what the Vikings gave up for them, but without solid coaching, which the Vikings lack, the full potential of this new class will never be realized. There is no doubt that Childress and Co. can spot fresh talent, there is however, a question as to whether they can coach and mold that talent into top NFL players.
I agree - they can spot fresh talent. They have a fairly good track record of it. I laugh because unless we pick one of the marquee players of the draft, people will bitch and moan no matter what. Speilman and co have done a good job with drafts to date.

I don't hate this draft at all. Am I as excited about it as some of the other drafts? Not really, but that likely has more to do with me not being as familiar with the players. I am still hoping we pick up LeFevour or Cambell in the 4th or even 5th (since QBs have fallen so much).

Billy and co. are great at plotting a draft board at where they should be(i.e pick 30) They lack flexibility when the draft goes to shit. All they can do is move up and down their boards. They take guys off their boards that maybe a top ten pick and even if they are there in the 3rd they will pass on him because he isnt on their boards. They have no flexibility.

I am going to flat say ... all you people sleeping on Chris Cook will be surprised. This guy can flat out play and will be a very good addition to this team.

I love the Gerhart picked. He is a workhorse grinder type leader that we will love.

And the Griffen pick is a steal.

It's not the same as having the second to last pick in the second, the second to last pick in the third, and the second pick in the fourth.

    Re:Who else hates this draft?

Toby Gerhart is gonna be awesome. The more I think about it, the more I like this draft. I realize people probably don't like it now, but I think it will prove to be a good draft in the long run... maybe sooner.

DeGeare could start on our line at RG and Joe Webb is extremely agile... we also got Griffen at great value.

If we sign Alan Faneca, I'll be thrilled with this off season.
    Disclaimer: I'm an idiot.

Drafts are so hit and miss.
This draft looks to be the worst I can remember. Esp. moving up to take *certain* players. That wearnt even the BPA. They wearnt even the best at that position.

You think you know the type of players the Vikes want, and Childress and Co take the opposite. I guess the thought of Tjoke playing next year doesnt scare the sh*t out of them like it does me.

I think Gearhart is going to be a big plus. Griffen looks like he has the talent to be very very good. Am I thrilled with this draft...guess not. But I suspect things will turn out better than many think. I was hoping to pick up a quarterback like everyone else, may be wrong but I don't think Snead was drafted so he could be picked up later.

    Re:Who else hates this draft?

OK, now that the draft is over, here are my final 2 cents.

I am not upset with this draft because we got some decent players. Cook, Gerhart, and Griffen are all excellent picks, although I think we reached for cook.

That being said, I am not nearly as excited about this draft as I have been of years past. First, I think we gambled a bit in trading down, and we were called on it. It happens, we'll live with it, but it was a mistake. That isn't taking anything away from Cook - I do think he will be decent. I just think we had targeted someone else and lost out.

Second I am surprised we didn't go for a QB at all. I honestly expected us to pick up someone to sit behind TJack and Favre. Since that didn't happen, I am hoping that the brain trust knows what they are doing. Either they are targeting someone next offseason, or TJack is finally showing them he is capable of what only a select few people believe he is.

All in all, I think we have some good additions, but I am not excited about any of them yet. Hopefully that will change in training camp and preseason.
