What Is The Supplemental Draft?
I've been reading a few things about the supplemental draft and that the Vikes have a possible three players they can get. But the kicker is that they have to give up some picks next year or the year after depending on who they get. Why aren't they just FA's? Can someone really explain it all?

How the Supplemental Draft Works
The Supplemental Draft, held after the traditional NFL Draft and before each season begins, is designed to allow underclassmen --who did not petition the league for early entry before the NFL Draft deadline but find themselves ineligible for the upcoming college season-- a vehicle for entering the NFL....

Thanks Singer. I knew you would come through. That was made very clear. Sometimes I feel so stupid.

Okay . . . here's the bigger question.
Any studs playing in the NFL from this draft??

Same here. Either I still don't understand the giving up of a pick for a pick in the supplemental draft or if I do, I don't understand why a team would want to do this; Thanks Singer. I knew you would come through. That was made very clear. Sometimes I feel so stupid.
The way I read that, if they take a 1st round pick in the supplemental draft, they forfeit there 1st round pick in the April draft the following year.If a team uses a pick in the Supplemental Draft, they must forfeit their choice in the corresponding round of the next years NFL Draft.
Obviously, the talent pool isn't as great in the supplemental draft as in the April draft, so why would a team opt to do this?

These are just players that has chosen not to go to college in this period after the draft so they have this process (often it's when they realize that they can't fulfill the academic criteria). Then if the teams wants the rights they forfeit a pick. Bengals did it last year with A.J. Nicholson. Made a 3rd round bid to make sure they got him, hence they had no 3rd rounder this aprils draft."COJOMAY" wrote:

Re: What Is The Supplemental Draft?
Nicholson was an undrafted Free Agent, the player you are thinking of is Ahmad Brooks
This years suppl. draft is interresting since there is two of next years first round talents entering, that would be Georgia's Cornerback Paul Oliver and Marylands Offensive Tackle, Jared Gaither. Both were ruled inegible(sp?) for the coming season for various reasons.
Also entering is another offensive tackle called Chris Patrick(which the Vikings have shown interrest in).

But since that, I read, probably in one of the Vikings Blogs I posted, correctly, when they were dissapointed in him for one reason or abother after checking him out. I can't remember if it was speed or what.
