Re: What Seahawk's Fans are Saying, Some of it makes sense

Of course he is gonna say he wants to play for Seattle. They are possibly the ones matching someone's offer. Its good business sense not burning bridges.

Keep in mind that players typically do not like being Franchised or Trasition Tagged. They basically sign a tender for one year nothing garaunteed after that. Those tags just aren't welcome by players. They have a limited shelf life, and they want the security of multi-year contracts. It sends a message like, "Yeah we know your are good, but not worth a long term deal with us."
*edit* Point being he may not want to stay with a team that thought he wasn't worth a long term deal. He may feel like the Vikes are stepping up and recognizing his talent and hard work.

The media keeps bringing up numbers like $600k more than the Transition Tender for the Hawks to keep Hutch. But the Transition Tender is a one-year gig. If the Seachickens were prepared to pay him an average of $7Mill per year over the next 7 years, they would have inked a contract with Hutch in the first place. Bottom line, that is a LOT of money to pay for a guard, and Seattle has not shown to be very generous opening their checkbooks to players... including their MVP running back who has done nothing but average 18 touchdowns over the last 5 years.

That is only for Franchise tags, NOT Transition tags...the Seahawks get NOTHING if Hutch signs with us!!!

Jeff, at least do your homework before you try to post something like this...it gets annoying to see such misinformation posted here...we aren't Packer fans talking out of our A$$E$, we are educated Vikings fans!!!

Feels weird going over enemy territory

this was posted at seachickens website:

While it can certainly be argued that the "poison pill" clause is not fair for the Seahawks, that doesn't change the fact that it is a legal and valid move. Rob Brzezinski is likely the best cap man in the NFL and while he plays things by the rules, he'll take every inch that the CBA will give him. I do suspect that Seattle will push for this loophole to be closed before the start of the 2007 FA, but you can't change the rules after the game has also ready started.

Also, PFT reconfirmed that Hutchinson will have $13+ million cap hit in the first year of the deal. I realize that Seattle will still have some wiggle room if they decide to match the deal, but that coupled with the "poison pill." May make the deal not worth matching. I think both sides are in agreement that Hutch is the best guard in the league right now, but paying him $13 million up front and then guaranteeing all $49 million of his deal after you guys have given Alexander, Jones, and Hasselback new deals just may not be worth it.

I have a feeling a vikes spy posted this

This is basically the point I was trying to make in my verbose post above. This guy summed it up better

    wtf :???:
well if you had to give up a first rounder for hutch wouldn't you trade your first rounder down to the bottom of the draft for as many picks as you can get then give seattle a worse pick? i would. heck the colts would jump all over it they need a running back now.

what if we could get a second and 3rd rounder from the colts if we had to give up our first rounder if seattle matches then give seattle one of the last few picks in the first round instead of 17? we'd get more value and give up less. but then seattle would say we were cheating ha ha.
This is coming from our resident cap-room genious. You mixed up Franchise and Transition tags.
