"We should trade Smoot" - stop and think!
"We should trade Smoot"
Boy.
If I had a dollar for every post which has had that in it for the past few weeks, I'd be RICH!
Why should the Vikings trade Smoot?
Because as a 3rd CB, he's not worth the big bucks that Zygi's paying him.
Now - if internet wonks like us can figure that out - isn't it likely that men who run football teams for a living know that, too?
The only way a trade makes sense is if Smoot agrees IN ADVANCE to re-negotiate his contract once traded.
So he's got some control in any trade offer because of this.
That is not something which makes him an attractive target.
Mark this down - the Vikings will NOT trade Fred Smoot.
If he doesn't restructure his contract, the Vikings will release him.

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

Hmmm.
Smoot may want out of Minny anyway.
His years in purple haven't exactly been kind to him.
That being said, I wouldn't be surprised to see him agree to renegotiate his contract pending a trade.
If he doesn't agree to renegotiate, we will still probably shop him... you never know what some teams are willing to do until you try.
If all trade attempts fail, I think we would prefer to keep him over releasing him.
He can still play decent ball, and would be an asset at nickel, or even #2 if he earns it in camp.Zeus wrote:
When are you going to realize that picking out the 20 bad throws this year and ignoring the 300 good ones does not make your point?

Yeah, I'd have to agree with Del on this one. A new contract would come with a new signing bonus, which is pretty much the only guaranteed money a football player gets, making renegotiating a very attractive option."AWZeus" wrote:
