Surely you don't believe that we would spend next years first rounder on a linebacker, so why do it now on a player reminiscent of Marcus Vick and Maurice Clarett?

If he's there in the 3rd, which I doubt he would be take him, but he is a big risk otherwise.
Wow! Have you looked at our LB's recently? It is by far the weakest area on our team.

Ben Leber: Couldn't tell you much he has ever done. Definitely not that good
Dontarious Thomas: One of the stupidest LB's in the NFL
EJ Henderson: Improving but still unreliable and inconsistant
Napolean Harris: Part of one of the worst trades in NFL History
    Rod Davis: Special Teams Player
Chad Greenway: Only guy on this list that has the POTENTIAL to be good

So to answer your question, who needs another rookie LB? THE VIKINGS DO!

So Edwards is "too old" and Brooks is "just ANOTHER rookie linebacker"...who else is gonna be available to us on the market....oh wait...I hear that the Jets wanna give us Jonathan Vilma for a seventh-rounder...or that the Bears wanna give us Urlacher for Napoleon and Ralph Brown. WAKE UP, Italian!!! We aren't gonna have many choices...but I would rather take a chance on one of these two guys than do NOTHING!!! The fact is that the middle of our defense is unsettled...and we need someone to step in and perform from DAY ONE!!! Edwards is the more logical choice, but Brooks would probably be a better option than doing nothing.
BANNED OR DEAD...I'LL TAKE EITHER ONE

You are way wrong about Ben Leber! He is a player, and will be a big improvement to our LB's.

I would definitely go as high as a 2nd round pick, but that may not be high enough to get him. Raonall Smith was a second round pick with huge athletic upside and that didn't work- maybe this one will. Everything is a gamble. I say roll the dice!

Can someone explain to me how this suplamental draft works? If we should choose to pick him in the 2nd round, would we forfiet a 2nd round pick next April?

    Thanks in advance

Re: We need to draft Ahmad Brooks!

Due to character issues,I chose 3rd round...if he does not pan out, then it didn't cost us that much.

Sign him to a performance based contract with a low cap hit,so we can cut him if he turns out to be a chump.

I like Edwards alot, but he is getting kinda long in the tooth and would want a big contract after this season...so the only way I would want to trade for him is if we, or the Chargers, signed him to extension.Otherwise we trade for him just to use him one year....not a good deal IMO

Ben Leber is a good player, the only reason you haven't heard of him is because of the star rookie the Chargers got last year!! Leber was playing back up to the rookie (Shawn Merriman)!!! How can you determin that Dontarious Thomas is stupid?!? He is fast!! If you haven't noticed but we are going to a Cover 2 defense that depends all on the speed of our LBs!!! You can teach a defense, but you can't teach speed!! But i do agree on Harris, and Henderson!! Henderson needs to prove more to earn that starting MLB spot, and Harris did play for Oakland in the SB, He does know the MLB position pretty well!!!

Your missing the point. The point is that these players are not worth the investment of draft picks that people around here seem to be contemplating. Edwards could start for a year or two, is that rental really worth a second rounder? Brooks has huge character issues and is a rookie ie. someone who likely wouldn't start this year and if he did he wouldn't play much better than anyone we already have. we have plenty of quality LBs that need to be given a chance to start rather than replacing our LB corps every offseason. I have faith that one of Napolean (who played MLB in a superbowl AS A ROOKIE), EJ (who only got a 1 year chance to play MLB, and has shown improvement) or Dontarrious (who is extremely athletic but needs good coaching) can get it done just as good without costing us anything.

Re: We need to draft Ahmad Brooks!

i hadnt actually heard to much about him before reading some of the stuff in this thread.. i unfortunatly dont follow to much of the college football since i dont get any of the football packages or anything on TV

but after reading this, i do think he would be worth picking up in the 2nd round, we've taken risks on players before (moss, k-rob, chester taylor, tavaris, etc etc etc) why not do it with a talented player at a position we could use a young player at
