Re: Vikings want veteran to compete w/ Ponder
Which is why the McNugget and Kolb talk is rubbish. If they bring in a vet they want a guy who is willing to hold a clipboard and play only if and when they are needed. That might mean they want him to compete to start on day one and if he wins he will play, but as soon as a young guy is ready to take over they get the nod and the vet gets the bench. Not many guys willing to do that.“Every guy doesn’t want to come in and mentor a young quarterback. Most want to come in and be the face of the franchise. We’re hoping that one of the young guys will be our leader for years to come,” Frazier said.

Nope. Not at all.

The Ponder threads are about Ponder.
The veteran QB is not necessarily McNabb & why this doesn't belong in that thread

Excellent post my friend.......

a. They aren't going to want to trade for a guy. Be a waste of a pick IMHO so the Kolb/McNabb talk is out unless they are willing to wait for McNabb to be released outright by the Deadskins. The question then is, will McNabb and his Agent say yes to being a backup.
b. Leaves us the following list of FA's.
Peyton Manning (IND) - Not gonna happen
Michael Vick (PHI) - Not gonna happen
Seneca Wallace (CLE) - Interesting. He's been a backup for along time and can win if needed.
Matt Hasselbeck (SEA) - Not gonna happen. Wants to be a starter.
Matt Moore (CAR) - Interesting option. Not the proven vet most would want though.
Alex Smith (SF) - Probably gonna stay with the 49rs.
Matt Leinart (HOU) - BUST. Don't need him.
Marc Bulger (BAL) - Will want to be a starter someplace.
Todd Collins (CHI) - Interesting. Same catagory as Wallace.
Caleb Hanie (CHI) - ??
Brady Quinn (DEN) - BUST
Drew Stanton (DET) - Same caliber as Bomar.
Trent Edwards (JAC) - Same caliber as Bomar.
Luke McCown (JAC) - Probably a bit better than Bomar.
Brodie Croyle (KC) - Same caliber as Bomar.
Chad Pennington (MIA) - Arm is gone.
Tyler Thigpen (MIA) - Interesting option. Knows the system. Would want to be starter though.
Tarvaris Jackson (MIN) - Everyone knows my opinion here. Probably a bad fit though as he will want to push for the starters job.
Jim Sorgi (NYG) - Intersting option. Not a pure WCO QB though.
Kellen Clemens (NYJ) - Same as Bomar/Thigpen.
Kyle Boller (OAK) - Intersting option.
Bruce Gradkowski (OAK) - Interesting option. Might want to push to be the starter.
Dennis Dixon (PIT)- Interesting option
Billy Volek (SD) - Interesting Option
Troy Smith (SF) - He did come in for the 49'rs instead of Carr.
Kerry Collins (TEN) - Probably gonna stay with the Titans but an interesting option.
Rex Grossman (WAS) - Just say no.
Long story short, I still think Bomar is the guy that could help "Teach" him the "Nuances" of being a pro. He is still under contract, and most importantly, knows how the Vikes organization runs.
On a side note, isn't it nice to have the ole News Hound back on the job? Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

I'm sorry, in what was you do you think Thigpen knows the system? He was a Viking for all of four months.

BOmar couldn't teach himself the 'Nuances' of being a pro, he's not ready to sculpt our top round pick.Long story short, I still think Bomar is the guy that could help "Teach" him the "Nuances" of being a pro. He is still under contract, and most importantly, knows how the Vikes organization runs.

Re: Vikings want veteran to compete w/ Ponder
I do think a vet qb would be a benefit for both Ponder and the Vikings. I would like to see Ponder have a spell on the sidelines learning the game rather than being chucked straight into the line of fire.
This isn't the Rams or the Panthers who can chuck their rookie 1st round qb into the mix and hope for the best with zero expectations and anything is a bonus, this is the Vikings, a franchise who expects to win now, to quote Frazier.
A year behind a vet would do Ponder and us a world of good, imho.

Good point too. If Bradford played like crap, it would still be a step up.

We ended the year with Jackson and brett on IR and Joe Webb as the most experienced and best QB on the roster. How hard can it be to improve on that?

Were in the hell do you come up with this stuff.

What Thigggy brings is WCO experience, not necessarily the Vikings brand.
Truth of the matter is, the only other candidates that have more knowledge of the system are:
Webb
Ponder
Bomar
Rationale behind that is because they are the only ones our staff has talked to.
Again, for this discussion, I am just looking for a cat who has experience in the scheme my friend.
WOW. What did you say yesterday....."Thanks for playing"........HAHAHAHA.Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.
