Classy move to pay his salary.
Thanks God (or Wilf I guess) that we might get some positive press.

Re: Vikings want Udeze to focus on health, place DE on reserve list

I wanted to point out the rules on this, as I think some sources (profootballtalk.com)are a little confused.
Or maybe I'm confused and someone can correct me.
Anyway, here's the governing language from the collective bargaining agreement (link):
Section 3. Non-Football Injury:
A player who is placed on a Non-Football Injury or Illness list (“N-F/I”) will not be entitled to any compensation under his contract while on such list but, except as provided below, his contract will continue to run while in such status. A player on N-F/I who is in the final year of his contract (including an option year) will have his contract
tolled. However, if the player is physically able to perform his football services on or before the sixth regular season game, the club must pay the player his negotiated salary (pro rata) for the balance of the season in order to toll such player’s contract. If such player is taken off NF/I during the period when such action is allowed by League rules, his contract will not be tolled.
So basically, I take two pieces out of this.
First, Udeze will be back with the Vikings next year.
Because its the last year of his contract, it will be tolled (won't count this year) until next year.
So they are paying him $800k this year, and will be on the hook for another $800k next year.
The second thing I took out of this is that even though the Vikes don't have to pay him at this point, it avoids a messy PR situation if Udeze tried to come back this year.
That's because if he was able to play, even if he had lost a bunch of weight and was out of shape, he might try to force his way back onto the team and then the Vikes would have to pay the guy or cut him.

Anyway, while I'd guess that Udeze doesn't have a great need for the money based on how much he's already made, I think the Wilfs did the right and smart thing for Udeze and the franchise.
This should keep Udeze's mind on getting better, keep him on the Vikes next year, and avoid any big distractions for the team halfway through the season.
When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]

And thank you Mr. Wilf.

said Childress, who praised owner Zygi Wilf for the decision.
Have I said how much I like this new ownership group lately?

Hear, hear.
I agree.
This is a class move by the organization.

They should have a Most Valuable Owner award.
This guy has done nothing but show he'll do what is necessary to make the Vikes a successful team that has a chance at the SB.
Including showing he's a class act.

Granted, that stupid stuff last year with TWill was a bit disappointing in the class category, but TWill was pretty disappointing too.

I hope if he facilitates bringing the Vikes to the SB, he will be rewarded with a new stadium.

I wish KU the best and hope he returns to the Vikes healthy and ready to play in the SB next year.
I'm not so sure that wasn't on the Chiller.
Not sure how that all works as I assume that would fall to Bryzcheapski to track the budget and who gets paid, but it does seems he has some say in who gets payed.
Marrdro,
You might be right...
Wilf does have another business to run.
It was probably Wilf that told them they should have paid him.
Bad public PR like that doesn't help the Vikes.
Let's not forget that the two situations are extremely different.
In TWill's case, the funeral was on Monday, Nov 5th.
He left on Monday, October 29th, and stayed away until Wednesday November 7th.
That is more than a week, and frankly I don't know of a lot of organizations that give you a week of bereavement leave for a maternal grandmother.
Plus there was the issue with the Vikings havng no idea when TWill would be back.
It seriously affected the game planning for two games.

Udeze has been open with the Vikings from the beginning, and as such it is being handled differently.

Not saying that the Vikes were right in the way they handles Twill.
Just that TWill wasn't exactly an innocent victim here...
