Vikings unlikely to draft RB - Today’s topic: Running backs (or lack thereof)
Draft preview: Vikings unlikely to draft running back
Produced by J. Pinkley and Regina McCombs
startribune.com
The Vikings are well-rounded enough at running back that they likely won't use a draft pick on that position this year, say beat writers Kevin Seifert and Judd Zulgad.....

Fucking brilliant.

Re: Vikings unlikely to draft running back
Really???
I guess they feel we're set with AD, Chester, and Hicks.
Interesting.
Now that the Allen trade is done with, they have nothing to do but make a few segments stating the obvious.
I have a few ideas for them:
How about a peice on how Zygi will not be hiring a new head coach this year
or
How MN will not start construction of a new stadium in May 2008

Re: Vikings unlikely to draft running back
I doubt it. i think we will take 1 if the right player is available late in the draft.

IMO, these are our most important needs
OT
s
LDE
C
DT
QB
WR
TE
LB
depth at guard, but the Centre we pick could also provide that
Might I remind you we now only have 6 picks in the draft,
2nd
4th
5th
6th
6th
7th
I don't think we can afford to waste one on a RB.
I'm sure we'll bring in some undrafted FA backs however.

We don't need a DT. We signed 2 this year. We don't appear to be the team that signs players and cut them the same year. We also won't sign a LB as we already have 6, I think that's how much we generally carry. We also won't draft a LE."kevoncox" wrote:

This leaves it like this. Teams ypically like to go with 4 Running backs.

Its not like we have anyone who actually had any significant time playing LE.
True, we have 6 LB's but at least 3 of them will almost exclusively play Special Teams.
for actual defense we have Leber, Greenway, EJ and Rufus.
We lost DT, who could play any position.
If there is a well rounded player available late in the draft who is capable of playing all 3 LB positions, i'm sure he'll get a look.
DT may or may not be taken, but you can't ignore that it will become an issue in a few years.

DT may become an issue depending on how Evans plays. I think the FO and coaching staff are the only ones that knows. I just don't think that DT will be address and LB in a weak draft class like this is unlikely as well."kevoncox" wrote:

The title of the article is spot on.. I would be shocked if they do.. and if they do, CT is going someplace.

since we no longer have 9 picks, i don't think one will be drafted unless there is very good value pick, like Rufus Alexander last year in the 6th.
