Re: Vikings sign WR Michael Jenkins

I was browsing the Falcons message board to see if I could get any positive input on him and no one is sad to see Jenkins go. I'm hoping.. really really hoping that this bodes well for us..

I think he'll do fine here, the ATL ran a "run 1st" offense & then used Roddy White, & Tony Gonzalez as their primary receivers..thus he didn't see much coming his way.

Re: Vikings sign WR Michael Jenkins

I wouldn't be so hard on the Wilfs over the past two years of Free Agency! Last season our hands were tied with all those expiring-CBA rules and this year we are over our cap thanks to Chiller's win-now-or-die philosophy. Not much choice for us really. If we wanted to sign a bunch of free agents, we'd have to jetison a bunch of our team and go into full-on rebuilding mode.

Jenkins fits the mold we were missing...a big, possesion target at 6'4". The past four years he's been averaging almost 50 catches a year for about 12.5 yards each...not bad. He's certainly no No.1 WR, but a decent no.2 or 3...and, apparently, he's a good outside run blocker too.

Call me crazy, but it sure seems to me that Peterson had more break-away runs when we had old big & slow Ferguson out there taking out CBs. Maybe this signing helps us in more ways than receptions!?

    Welcome aboard Jenkins! SKOL VIKINGS!!!

Jenkins seems like a good fit for a West Coast Offense. Beside what has been said above, his stats show that the vast majority of his catches (65%-75%over the past few years) are for 1st downs. Not a flashy receiver but he could make a nice big target on 3rd downs.

Bernard is going to have to stay healthy so we have some kind of verticle attack. Along with Aromashodu. Percy and Jenkins inside. Good move as long as the BB and DA can get it done on the outsides

Yup. I actually like the Aromashodu signing. I think the guy can be a solid contributor for us, at far cheaper than Berian. Same skillset, but he somehow got in Lovie's doghous last season, and didn't see much playing time. The guy is fast, and might be able to help in the return game as well.

I like it, I recall picking up another slow, possesion receiver from Ohio State off of the scrap heap, that one turned out OK.

Thanks for the update my friend.

I'm glad it was this guy instead of that nasty PUKER.
No problem! I didn't want James Jones either, but I thought we'd pick up someone a little better than Michael Jenkins  We need to spend the rest of our money on some secondary help! Or decent O-lineman. I will puke if we re-sign Ryan Cook (my least favorite Vikings player of all-time).

A great run blocker so that may be part of the reason for the signing if Musgrave wants to ground and pound.

I completely agree with your comment on the secondary.. We need to improve.

    Cornerbacks:
    Antonio Cromartie (NYJ)
    Brandon Carr (KC)
    William Gay (Pit)
    Chris Houston (Det)
    [strike]Fabian Washington (Bal)[/strike]
    Roderick Hood (Ten)
    Ellis Hobbs (Phi)

    Safety:
    Donte Whitner (Buf)
    [strike]Michael Huff (Oak)[/strike]
    Bernard Pollard (Hou)
    Gerald Sensabaugh (Dal)
    Ken Hamlin (Ind)
    Jordan Babineaux (Sea)
    *bump* updated list

I couldnt agree more. Keep in mind that we are going to be using a 2 TE set alot this season. Shiancoe and Rudy are going to be primary targets alot, with some serious ground and pound. Ill be the first to say it....last year of his contract...2 TE sets...Musgrave....Peterson is going to break Dickersons single season rushing record and Gherhart is going to have a solid sophmore season providing they can stay healthy

Washington just got signed by New Orleans today.
