Re: VIKINGS SIGN TWO RECEIVERS

OK, youse mugs, here's da skinny on dis palooka...
================================================

#10 Kevin Kasper | WR

Full Name: Kevin Joseph Kasper
Born: December 23, 1977
Hinsdale, IL
Height: 6-1
Weight: 197 lbs.

Age: 28
Pos: WR
Experience: 5 years
College: Iowa
Drafted: Year:2001 Round:6 Pick:27, Broncos

2006 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.
Grade: 62 | Key
Alert: Durability

Comment:
He is fast enough to slip behind most defenders, he possesses good body control and he does a nice job of adjusting to the ball while tracking it downfield. Kasper can change directions quickly, he possesses adequate size and he has the potential to develop into an effective short-to-intermediate route-runner. He rarely drops passes that he should catch and he flashes the ability to make the tough catch in traffic. Kasper can catch the ball in-stride, he wastes little getting upfield once he's secured the ball and he can be productive after the catch. His durability is a significant concern. Kasper lacks ideal recognition skills and he has some problems settling into the soft spot working against zone coverage. He doesn't always explode out of cuts, his footwork is inconsistent and he has some problems generating separation. Kasper doesn't play with a mean streak, he struggles to get a clean release working against press coverage and physical corners will have some success muscling him out of his routes. He doesn't run with great power and he isn't going to break a lot of tackles as a kickoff return-man.

Re: VIKINGS SIGN TWO RECEIVERS

Why is everyone worried about the number of guys we have at the WR position? Most of these guys are just going to be practice dummys and they know that..... but it is the only way they get a chance at being noticed. If they are good enough, they get cut.... period.

Thanks Lotza!

Re: VIKINGS SIGN TWO RECEIVERS

There's little doubt about who our receivers are going to be.

I think they are looking for people to compete for special team positions at this point in time.

Durability probably isn't a huge issue if you are still around after five years.
What takes a quarterback to the next level is not arm strength or mobility or any of that stuff. Its the ability to play on critical downs. Manage third downs, or red zones or four-minute or two-minute situations"

I don't think fifth year players are eligible for the practice squad, so Kasper is a no go there. They may be true for the other kid though.

Vikings: Signings of Kasper, Davis add depth to receivers
Judd Zulgad, Star Tribune

The Vikings added depth to their receiving corps on Tuesday when they signed former Iowa walk-on Kevin Kasper and ex-Marshall standout Josh Davis.

Kasper, 6-1, 197 pounds, has 24 receptions for 287 yards and three touchdowns in four NFL seasons with Denver, Seattle, Arizona and New England. The 28-year-old did not play in the NFL last season and was recently released by the Seahawks after signing in January. He was a member of the Super Bowl champion Patriots in 2004, playing in the final eight games of that season. Kasper went to camp with Houston last year but did not make the team.

A sixth-round draft choice by the Broncos in 2001, Kasper also could compete for a job on kick returns. He has returned 77 kicks for 1,869 yards (24.3 average) in his career. He had his best receiving season in 2002 when he caught 15 passes for 180 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games with the Cardinals.

Davis, 25, spent the final seven weeks of last season on the New Orleans Saints' practice squad after originally signing with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted rookie free agent in April 2005.

The 6-1, 190-pound Davis, who attended the same college as former Vikings receiver Randy Moss, finished his career as the Mid-American Conference's all-time leading receiver with 306 catches for 3,889 yards and 23 touchdowns. His receiving total ranks second in NCAA history. Purdue's Taylor Stubblefield ended his career with 325 catches.
