Re: Vikings pick up pre-draft pace

You ask yourself "Where in the code of conduct is it written 'One Strike and You're out'"

I am simply asking, Where in the code of conduct is it written:

2 years without incident allow for signing, but with a short leash.
Multiple offenses warrant release, but single offenses are exceptable.
Do not mouth off at the coach, it is unacceptable.

No one knows what the CoC says.
    It hasn't been published.

The thing with Doss is that we have a coach on our staff who is personally knowledgeable of his situation and what Doss has done to rectify the issue.
That's more than the Vikings had with Drunken Koren last year.

I believe that Zygi has shown that there is room for players to get second chances (as with Robinson) but there is not room for gross misconduct after having been given that 2nd chance.

Childress has basically said that character will be a factor in personnel decisions.
He did not say it would ever be the only factor.
Plus, as Zeus said, it helps when the DC can personally vouce for you.

AND - let's remember - the Code of Conduct was in place BEFORE Childress was hired.
    That's Zygi's deal, not The Big Chill's.

The quote that sticks in my head in the good people first, good players second. That definition will always be a gray area. With regards to Doss, in no way do I think we are adding a bad personality to the team.

With regards to player behavior in general, I have some problems with the treatment Dwight Smith recieved in comparison to what happened to Marcus Robinson. I don't see how being arrested warrants a one game suspension if mouthing of at the coach results in being fired. Then we sign a player who has been in past trouble with the law. It just seems that we are changing the guidleines for player behavior every 3 months. Is it too much to ask for consistency?

It does seem to go against all civil rationale, however, when dealing with sports, anything said against the coach - thereby detracting from his authority as the one in charge is usually dealt with harshly.

Dissention amongst the troops is usually tolerated until they try to commit mutiny.

This is what Mike Doss says about it,

It was nothing that was discussed," he said. "It was an isolated incident and more of a self-defense situation at the time anyway. Any time you get any bad publicity as a professional athlete, it's going to be documented. But I've come into this league and been a stand-up guy, and I'll continue to be that"

That right there might sum up 100% why Childress accepted him.

Marcus Robinson had more issues than just mouthing off at the coach.
He wasn't let go from the team because of a violation of the CoC - he was let go for repeatedly dogging it in practice, not playing because of minor injuries, as well as taking team issues out of the locker room and into the press.

Dwight Smith was charged with a MISDEMEANOR and has since pled guilty and served his sentence.

I don't see this inconsistency to which you are referring.
