Yeah, take Jolly. That'll put Marr in a difficult situation.

Zeus had the best idea IMO, Javon Walker.

WAHHHHHHHH. Go practice your drives with Tiger then.
Longwell...points out the Vikings went to a directional kickoff plan last season under new special teams coordinator Brian Murphy and thus the aim wasn't necessarily to boot the ball as deep as possible every time.
    Spin that one, hater.
lmao (I have a feeling that Z was one of the stopwatch guys)
Nope. I have better things to do than waste time while watching football gathering evidence to "win" an internet argument.
    Like belittle marst?
While it was fun to sit next to Mars at the games, I won't miss his whiny bitching all game long. What a girl.

I'm officially let down. I would have thought he would be good to sit next to.

I said it was fun to next to Mars at the games. And it was. Wish he would man up and get his ticket for next year.

But he did have a tendency to look at any single bad play as the end of the game.

What sitting next to someone in a " Marry me Brett " shirt with matching poms poms and wetting himself in excitement every time Favre touched the ball - not my idea of fun :P
Time spent annoying a Packer fan is never time wasted...

Re:Vikings' Longwell not happy sharing kicking dut

Anyone who is defending Longwell's right to kick off at this point is a little off I think.

He clearly struggles with kickoffs. I do not need any Web site or any crazy stats (though they seem to support this thought) ... all I have to do is watch our games.

Sure, the tackling and angles, blah blah blah, could be better on kickoff coverage, but the fact is that teams averaged starting at the 28-yard line against us and we need to address that.

One way to address that is to bring in a bigger leg to kickoff. There is NO argument that can be made that Longwell is better at kickoffs than Lloyd. His kicks hang in the air longer and go further and he gets a much larger percentage of touchbacks. I am guessing he could "directional kick" with a little more gusto as well.

Now, you want to argue that the roster spot is not worth it, that is a different argument and fairly legitimate IMO. But to argue that Longwell was getting the job done is just blindly swinging and coming up empty, because he simply wasn't.

    Is Lloyd worth it?

Lloyd is a stud at KOs. I think most will be pleasantly surprised by how good he is by the end of next year. The extra 8 games in a Dome, and the extra opportunities that kicking off for the Vikings will send his Touchback count through the roof.

With the extra Dome Games and KOs he gets playing for the Vikings he should be around 35 TBs next year. Longwell had 5 last year.

Thats like adding a special team player that gets 30 Tackles at the 20 yard line. The top ST tackler in the league had 21 tackles.

More than likely we drop a guy like Frampton(15) Onatolu(14) or Abdullah (12) who can easily be offset by another player on the roster as we look to have a nice infusion of athletes that will be showing there stuff on STs with our crowded roster.

I think Lloyd is definitely worth it.

Ever wonder why they employed a directional kicking strategy on KO's?

Probably because the kicker couldn't get it into the endzone consistently, with enough hang time, to allow coverage teams to get down there.

Call it spin, I call it a ST's Coord getting what he can out of a player until they can fix it next (this) year.
your right, I'm sure it had nothing to do with using a guy with good accuracy to pin defenders to the sidelines, taking away a portion of the field and using the sideline as a defender.

Easier to defend a guy when you know which way he has to cut than it is to defend a guy who can go anywhere.

but I guess you'll probably just write that off as 'excuses'
Nope, not an excuse. Just a strategy you use when your Kicker has a leg like a Noodle.....

I bet we don't see any directional kicking (except on Punts) this year.

Lets not forget what the Aints did to us (Percy) on Koff's. Pretty much took one of our strengths away. I for one sure wish we would have had a young strong leg in overtime.
I may be mistaken, but weren't you against us getting a KOS marr?
I am NOT here to provide good football insight or rational observations. I am an emotional 19 year old Viking fan and I expect you to adjust your expectations from my posts.
