Re: Vikings interested in FB Leonard Weaver?
i dont see us getting weaver. seattle already offered him highest paid FB. he is more of a third down back as well...and we have chester. he isnt an elite lead blocker either.
Q: At your age, can you handle a full season?
A: I m 37, number one. I took my family to Perkins a couple of days ago, and they didn t hand me a senior citizens discount card, so I feel pretty good.

Not sure if I agree wtih his assesment of Tahi, or what role our FB has in this scheme, however, a decent article......
As I suspected.PROS:
-Excellent receiver out of the backfield
-Exceptional pass blocker
-Effective rusher on the few carries he gets
CONS (from Seattle's perspective):
-Not an effective lead blocker in the running game
-The Seahawks drafted Owen Schmitt last year, who is more of a traditional
"bruiser" type of fullback
Guys like this cat are looking for a guy who can catch the ball alot more out of the backfield instead of worrying about opening wholes for AD.
Funny, I would think the cat would realize we don't throw the ball much to the FB........
Funny cuz AD prefers single back formations
Funny cuz Weaver is probably about on par with Tahi on run blocking
Funny cuz Weaver is 10000 times better then Tahi at picking up a blitz
Funny cuz we DO pass to the FB.. Tahi just can't get more then 2 yards a catch

Again, I get the sense that the only reason people on here don't like Tahi his because he doesn't make dynamic catches out of the backfield.......Ignoring the whole thought process that the FB in this scheme really isn't called to do that very often.
Additionally, V4L said it himself, even AD would rather not have a lead blocker.
Not sure why, but it probably centers around the issue another blocker brings into the mix......Read the FB block, Read the OL block......Not very conduscive to hitting the whole fast now is it........ :
Sure we do, once every other game or so.........Funny cuz we DO pass to the FB..Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

Some excellent points in there.I'm thinking it comes down to cost effectiveness. Is Weaver worth paying (if he is asking for some cash), if he really isn't a lead blocking type of FB. We are a running team first, and a passing team second. If he comes on the cheaper side, I believe the FO will sign him. Too much, and they will settle with Tahi.
I really think that Tahi isn't really supposed to see the ball on passing plays. It's more Jackson choosing to check down to him too soon.
I still think that they brougth Mills in for a reason.
Sure isn't to play TE as we haven't seen much of that now have we.
His body style seems to be more inline with the H-back kindof guy this staff likes and would make a bit more sense instead of a guy like Weaver.
Hell, even considering that they like the H-back, what did Dugan have, like 2 or 3 catches all year last year? Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

Re: Vikings interested in FB Leonard Weaver?
We seem to like our TEs a lot more than our FB.
Not sure wassup there, but Tahi does sometimes look surprised that the ball is coming anywhere near him, and he hasn't caught all that many that did.
Yup, someway, somehow find a way to better pick up, or pick off, the blitz!
Please!!
Well, signing a potential third down back now would set us up in case CT is difficult to resign next year...of course, we could draft a guy for that spot and have him learn for a year too.Control the line, control the time, and give your D a chance to shine!!

He had 16 receps for 37 yards....
MAYBE he would have more if he could actually do something with the ball

Re: Vikings interested in FB Leonard Weaver?
I feel Tahi CAN get better.. But Weaver is leaps and bounds ahead of Tahi at this point
Tahi has trouble with blitz recognition and pick up
He sucks with the ball hardcore
The thing is.. He had more receps then Tony Richardson the year before.. But Tony actually did things with the ball.. Richardson is more of a Weaver kinda guy.. And that's what we want
Not someone who is average to below average at blocking.. Never carries the ball.. And is lucky to get 3 yards a catch
If he was actually good at blocking and blitz pick up.. I wouldn't care if we used him.. But at this point the only thing he is MAYBE average at is blocking.. And AD doesn't even care to use a FB

Re: Vikings interested in FB Leonard Weaver?
Well since we passed on mike Karney who IMHO would of been a great pick up for this team as he is very underrated and can block,
Weaver may be the next best pick up
