Vikings interested in FB Leonard Weaver?

http://blogs.startribune.com/vikingsblog/?p=2625

Question mark because of the unknown league source and I don't know much about him though the guys at Rotoworld don't think much of his blocking ability. Also he wants to be paid like a running back.

I thought he was guy that we would target going into FA or at least have intrest in. It seems as though they are asking for above average FB money at the least. Not sure about his blocking but we don't really need a running FB, it would be nice though to have more of a recieving threat.

Would like to know more about his lead blocking ability, I wonder if he's any better than Tahi?

Sign this man!

He is the ideal WCO fullback, though I cannot vouch for anything on his blocking skills, he is definitely a receiving threat and a solid 3rd string RB.
We all know how Chilly likes position versatility.

I would LOVE to see us get Leonard Weaver in here. There were some rumbling about him on here for a while on why we were not talking to him.
To hear we are interested is a good sign ... we should definitely make a push for him to get a very versatile player to help this offense.

Vikings interested in Seattle fullback

The Seahawks' Leonard Weaver is on Minnesota's radar.

The Vikings are one of several teams that have expressed interest in Leonard Weaver, who has spent his first four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. Weaver's agent, Harold Lewis, said there are "four or five" teams that have called daily about his client....

LOL! Of course an agent is going to say that.

FBs.........

If the team thinks we need a upgrade then I am all for it.
I for one think the way we use our FB's and Hback's is a bit weird and don't really see the need or emphasis on the position the way most of you do.

Seems alot of you are looking for the cat to come out of the backfield alot and get huge yards in the passing game.

Catch the ball once in awhile, however, thicken that neck up and get ready to take on a T, G or LB.
All I ask.
By the by, I think that is all the staff asks of them as well.

Having said that, after Tahi got in there a bit last year (after the debacle that was Tapeh) he did a pretty good job of sealing the edge and opening the whole at the next level.
My guess is he will continue on that path and be a very effective LEAD BLOCKER for AD this year.

Solving Our Problems: Leonard Weaver

http://vikingsragnarok.blogspot.com/...rd-weaver.html

Not sure if I agree wtih his assesment of Tahi, or what role our FB has in this scheme, however, a decent article......

PROS:
-Excellent receiver out of the backfield
-Exceptional pass blocker
-Effective rusher on the few carries he gets

CONS (from Seattle's perspective):
-Not an effective lead blocker in the running game
-The Seahawks drafted Owen Schmitt last year, who is more of a traditional
"bruiser" type of fullback
As I suspected.
Guys like this cat are looking for a guy who can catch the ball alot more out of the backfield instead of worrying about opening wholes for AD.

Funny, I would think the cat would realize we don't throw the ball much to the FB........

Re: Vikings interested in FB Leonard Weaver?

I'm thinking it comes down to cost effectiveness. Is Weaver worth paying (if he is asking for some cash), if he really isn't a lead blocking type of FB. We are a running team first, and a passing team second. If he comes on the cheaper side, I believe the FO will sign him. Too much, and they will settle with Tahi.

I really think that Tahi isn't really supposed to see the ball on passing plays. It's more Jackson choosing to check down to him too soon.
