I hope Ryan drops to 17 but just don't see that happening.

Here are a few bullets/snippets from a magazine I am reading on the QB's that are projected to go after Ryan.
If I was to guess at a QB that would be on the roster next year I would look at Booty,
and Johnson as they are projected as good fits for teams that run a WCO.

Brohm, Pocket passer that isn't very mobile.
Star potential if he lands with a franchise that has an outstanding OL that can give him protection.
    Leadership skills are in question

Woodson, Excellent arm and throws the deep ball on a frozen rope.
He can lead a team to wins.
    Ugly mechanics with eradic accuracy.
Needs a great QB coach that can break him down and rebuild him or he'll end up another Leftwich.

Flacco, Elite size and arm strength makes him an interesting prospect.
    Above average accuracy and mobility.
He ran a simple offense in Delware so his abilities to run a complex WCO are in question.
A long term project that given the right system could be a above average starter

Booty, Smart QB that could really excell in a WCO.
Can get through his progressions and is decent throwing on the run. Good mechanics and a quick release. but he doesn't have an arm strong enough to throw the deep ball consistently.

Johnson, An accurate arm with good athleticism. Can make plays with his feet as well as his arm.
Hasn't faced alot of high level competition so the jump to the NFL will be a big one.
A perfect fit for a WCO but probably won't be ready until 2009/2010 season if matched with the right coaching staff.

I agree Marr...of the three, I would prefer Booty.
He's most ready to play and I think he's gonna be a good one for many years.
I am a bit concerned about the comment on his abilities related to the deep throw.

Again, these bullets are out of a magazine and I've never seen any of them play, except Henne in a few games last year, so I don't know if he can or can't get the ball deep consistently and accurately.

The only quarterbacks that I would be happy with if the Vikings draft are Ryan, Brohm, Flacco, Ainge and O'Connell. I don't really like anyone else. Henne and Booty would be alright too, but I think Woodson is going to be a huge bust, and I can't see Josh Johnson panning out in the NFL either.

Re: Vikings have their eyes on QB Matt Ryan

I think there is an outside chance that no QB goes in the first.
I don't think anyone before BAL will reach for one, and if BAL don't, the next team in need of QB is CAR at 13.
Then, its CHI followed by DET who could both use a franchise QB.

At the end of the first, I think the Bucs, Chargers, and 49ers would consider him too.

I like Josh Johnson in the third.
He's got the physical gifts, and an incredible 43 TDs to 1 INT ratio!

I was wondering what your mag said about Ryan...why is he considered the best of the class?

    I worry about Ainge.

The magazine says he was terribly inconsistent and lacked confidence most of the time.
It says he will have to be broken down mentally and physically and rebuilt.

That kindof verbiage (again, I've never seen the kid play) scares me a bit.

O'Connell is another interesting prospect but he is a long way from being ready.
Some of the stuff that worries me is that he only gets through his first read and then pulls the ball down and runs.
Like the size and arm strenght he supposedly has though.

People think that because of the competion he played

    And his tools and mechanics

Re: Vikings have their eyes on QB Matt Ryan

The thing I like most about Booty is that he has a proven, advanced ability to lead a team with superstars.
He has serious moxy, however, concerns about his deep ball and the zip on the long out are warranted.
Brohm and Henne are definitely better prospects, Flacco too possibly.
No such thing as a perfect QB...Brady ran like a duck and posted something like a 5.4 at his combine.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent

I left Ryan off the list as I assume he won't bet there at 17 and I don't see us moving up for a QB again.

    Anyway, it says....

Not only does he have the strong accurate arm, but he has the size to see the field.
Perfect mechanics and a good football mind.
He will drive a coach crazy because of poor decisions with the ball.
He has all the tools to be a franchise QB if he can be coached to avoid teh crippling INT's.
