Re: Vikings Grade Well In 5-Year Study Of NFL Drafts

Please also note in 2006 draft we actually drafted Donald Penn but I don't believe we signed him and released him. Thats a damn good pick too

The team was never gutted. It had a core of vets( many of whom are still here)

To date, the only places they have felt they needed to do that was for WR, RDE, QB, LG, Sam LB, and QB.
And RB ( Chester Taylor) and TE ( Shank)

That is 8 of 22 positions or over 33%

Everyone else (Vet wise) that have been added are because one of the starters (i.e Griff) went down and those guys were second tier vets that were let go by another team. In alot of instances (Jasper for EJ, Cook across the line except LT, Asher/McCauley for Whinny, etc, one of the draftees has stepped in and filled the void nicely.

Besides, I only listed the players cause he said 10. I wanted to see who the 10 were. By my count he is wrong by 2.

Seriously? 11 players are still here and you think that is gutting? Just for reference how many teams that are in the league have significantly more guys still on the roster after 5 years?

Not to mention if you go back to years 1 and 2 when the majority of "rebuilding" goes on after a coaching change you will see a much bigger number. No, my friend, it wasn't a rebuild in 2006.

OTOH care to wager how many of Chilly's guys are still on the roster 5 years down the road? My guess is it will be fewer than 11.

I didn't even look out to 5 years. That was just 2005 to 2006 with a annotation of who was still here now.

Another team that you can compare it to (that was gutted) was the Cards, they had 26 from one season chopped into the next season when Denny left.

Browns had 26 chopped the next season when Manginious took over.

Nope, just a few random pulls and it looks like teams that get gutted equal about half.
