One of the most obvious signs of Minnesota's offensive struggles last season was the failure to move the chains on third down....

"If they are taking it away and we can't throw in that intermediate hole, we don't want to throw over the top of the linebacker," Childress said. "We want to make sure that a guy has an opportunity to make a play. Sometimes you've got to check it down, and I know that drives fans crazy, but it will drive you more crazy to throw it to them and to not have the opportunity to punt the football."
Ouch.
B-chill spankin the fans.

Re: Vikings Focus On 3rd Down
This is a good sign considering the major difficulties we seemed to have on third down at times last season. The only major problem ... Childress worked on it then ... lets hope a year in the saddle has him making the important adjustments.

While I completely understand where Coach Childress is coming from, I do think that the check down was over used last year.
Sometimes (but only occasionally) last year I can honestly say that I would have rather seen a deep pass picked off then a three yard pass on third and long.
Give the fans something to get their blood pumping for, and keep the secondary honest.
Plus, you never know.
We could come down with the ball... ;D

We had Brad Johnson as QB, no such thing as a long ball
