I don't know. Dallas added a kickoff specialist last year, and it really helped them with field position. I would be OK with this.

I have no problem adding a kickoff specialist. It is one of few spots we can make improvement in.

I definitely do not want to see Longwell go as a kicker, but we could use a booming leg on kickoffs.

I'm actually really excited about this. I hope we sign him, because I've been wanting a KOS for a few years, I think we could have won the NFC Championship game if we didn't give up a couple huge kick returns. And on top of it all, I love using this guy in madden, never heard of him before I used him, but I just like him.
Damn, I was gonna bump you up a couple of columns on the ole spreadsheet until you went down the Madden rabbit hole.... :P
Haha I wasn't saying that he's good because I use him in madden. I just meant that I'd never heard of him, I picked him up in madden, and now the vikings are gonna interview him, so I think it's kind of cool. For me at least. I obviously realize that just because a player is good/bad in madden doesn't mean they play that way in real life. Hell, I love using Tjack, doesn't mean I trust him out on the field.

Yeah he will make the final roster. We brought him in to be a KOS ... and I guess there is an outside shot at him taking the punter job.

I personally think that we will be carrying three kickers. And I don't have a problem with that.

Being that Lloyd was an 'untender restricted free agent' the Vikes aren't affected by the final 8 or 4 or even March Madness.

Being that Lloyd was untendered the Vikes give up a photo of Childress in drag, a TJack throw with this hand wristband and a DVD of Favre's Sears and Hyundai SB ads, and a remix of Favre and the Vikings 'pants on the ground'

Lloyd was a kicker and punter for the Gopher's for a couple of years he is used to the Metrodome.

He was not good at field goals or punts but has a strong leg and did well on kikcoffs I would bring him in just for that.

I don't like Longwell's kickoffs and want a kickoff specialist that can make them start from the 20 each time.

In the Saints game they won the field position battle all game long and it cost us.
    Thanks for the Gopher background.

There have been a few of us who hacked on ole Shortwell about his KO'ffs, all the while being subjected to stuff the pointed out his FG accuracy as a reason to put up with it.

I think the Saints game was a eye opener for some, almost to the point that now all we will here is "I've been saying that for years" kindof comments.

Don't worry though, PPO has a neat thing called the search function, as with the Tahi discussion it won't be hard to remind them what thier original stance was..... .......
He wasn't great at FGs in college.. but he's been the best Gopher kicker that I've seen in my lifetime. I'm actually really happy we signed him, as that's been my ONE knock on Longwell.. was his kickoffs.

Also would like to add that Lloyd kicked a game winner against the Badgers one year, and before the ball split the uprights he was sprinting like a mad man to the Axe. That was my favorite Gopher/Badger moment.

Never mind my good friend V, he thinks that the Long Snapper is a waste of a roster spot.

Re:Vikings finally line up a visit

Asked about the Vikings' plans for Lloyd to handle kickoffs, Murtha said: "The organization made it clear that they were committed to carrying a kickoff specialist. I think that was made clear to Rhys and to me. Coach Childress and his staff and the organization were committed to that. They wanted to have the advantage that they had seen around the league either with the teams that have carried an extra guy or those that have someone in the organization whose kickoffs were beyond the norm. Rhys is capable of putting the ball in the end zone all of the time."
    Lloyd signs with Vikings
Well it only took them 3 years to finally listen to me about ole Shortwell.

Who were the cats who were quoting hang times to me last year. :P
