Vikings Dream Draft 2008-going deep (7th round)

I know its early, combine still coming and all, but I was thinking about how we could top last years draft...the Vikings 2008 Dream Draft!!!
So, after some digging and even looking at shuffling the picks around some...for instance if we got Philips in the first, then one of the next 3 picks would be WR...maybe Bowman, and the 4th round S could be the FB

    1.
    Malcolm Kelly
    WR
I was totally blown away by all the catches this guy made in good coverage/traffic!
    Clutch Talent.
    2.
    Trevor Laws DT
Non Stop motor…112 tackles senior year!!!
    3.
    Owen Schmitt
    FB
BEAST of a blocker with decent hands.
    3.
    Joe Flacco QB
    Big Strong QB for depth/competition
    4.
    Jamar Adams SS
Good size and speed and experience.
    “Hard worker, Leader”
    5.
    John Sullivan C
eventual Birk replacement, maybe play some guard/push Herrera.
    6.
    Jonathon Hefney S/PR
A bit small at 5’9”, but had 96 tackles past two years in a row…and a 12.1 punt return avg.
    7.
King Dunlap or Tony Hills OT
Big Bad MoFo to push for Cook’s spot…

The idea being that the safeties hopefully won’t have to start any games this year, but would learn behind Sharper and Smith for now…maybe we resign one of our injured guys too?
Kelly and Rice with Wade in the slot could be dangerous for years.
Laws can go into the rotation now, and with him and the Williams fresh and furious, our DTs would wreak havoc!
Schmitt is a wealth pick, perhaps not a need, but, we’ve got the extra third, and he seems like just the kind of hardnosed hard working, blue collar kind of player I’d like to see a Viking for years…another option here would be Craig Steltz at S out of LSU.
But, I like Adams’ potential too, and they seem to think he’ll drop…

What do you guys think about that for a Vikings draft ???

While I like almost all the picks, I don't agree with Flacco. IMHO hes the second best QB in the draft. His stock has risen tremendously after the senior bowl practices.I'm sure the combine will only increase that. The guy has all the tools you want in a QB.Hes huge, can see the whole field, and his arm is a USMC rocket launcher.I can see Chicago or Baltimore snaggin him way before we can.

Good stuff tho, keep it comin!

Theres NOTHING greater then a Florida Gator!

Yeah, the QB rankings have been jumping around some.
As I recall, Henne had a good game at the senior bowl too, and Ainge's game winning drive didn't hurt his cause either.
Lots of folks got Woodson going to the bears in rd 1 or 2...and then there is still Brohm and Matt Ryan too...maybe?

That would be the sexiest draft ever if we got Kelly/Flacco/Adams/Law. I highly doubt it...especially since Flacco is no longer flying under the radar.
Because I'm a Vikings fan, they are that much sexier.

Didn't we trade our sixth rounder for Holcomb?
Or is that next year's pick?

I like your draft w/ the exception of Schmitt with our first pick in the third.
He would maybe be OK in the fourth if he is really a potential all-pro at the position, but I don't think he is worth a first day pick.
I'd move Flacco up to our first 3rd round selection, and then I'd probably put a safety like Steltz in the second 3rd round slot.
With the safety position locked up, that would allow us to draft a TE in the fourth, but I would gladly swap your Laws pick for a DE or a TE like Martellus Bennett or Fred Davis.
Kelly would be awesome in the first IMO, but a solid combine might take him off the board before our pick.

So my dream draft for now would look like:

    1. WR Kelly/S Phillips
    2. DE Jackson or TE Davis/Bennett
    3. QB Flacco
    3b.S Steltz
    4. ILB J Leman or best DE or TE available depending on what we take in the second
    5. C John Sullivan
    6. No pick
    7. FS Joe Fields or LB Ben Moffitt depending on who we draft in the fourth
    7b. T Jeremy Zuttah

Re: Vikings Dream Draft 2008-going deep (7th round)

Ooops, yup, I forgot, no 6th!
    D'oh!
And, it has been sticking in my craw that Childress mentioned LB in his latest press...with Dontarious set to leave via FA, our depth there is going to take a pretty big hit...that might make the FB pick completely out of the question, given we've got Dugan and Tahi and maybe Richardson.
My alternate dream draft might look like this:

    1.
    Philips or Smith at S
    2.
    Trevor Laws DT
    3.
    Adarius Bowman WR
Physical WR, gifted athlete who played basketball and football at OSU.
    3.
Schmitt FB or, more likely Adibi LB
    4.
    Dennis Dixon QB
He's hurt, but has potential, and we're looking at TJack starting the year off...
    5.
    John Sullivan C
    7.
    Hefney S/PR or OT depth...

OK, now do the hard work.
Who comes off the roster to make room for them.

    1.
    Philips or Smith at S
(Easy we need alot of S this year).
    2.
    Trevor Laws DT
(Spencer is the logical choice - To small)
    3.
    Adarius Bowman WR
I am still betting they will bring in a VET for Twill.
    Who goes then?

    3.
Schmitt FB or, more likely Adibi LB
    4.

    7.
    Hefney S/PR or OT depth

A few ideas to get you going.
Again, you all have to think about stuff like that when you come up with your Dream drafts unless you are just drafting guys cause there good and you don't care what happens to the other talent still on the team (i.e Allison/Rice).

    Why not?

We are set with Kevin and Pat, Fred is a good backup/possible future replacement for Pat, but Spencer isn't worth resigning for the money he will garner in the current over priced FA market.
He is way to small to play the 3 gap type of technique we need anyway.

    90 Fred Evans DT 24 6-4 305 2 Texas State

    97 Spencer Johnson DT 26 6-3 286 4 Auburn
    93 Kevin Williams DL 27 6-5 311 5 Oklahoma State
    94 Pat Williams DL 35 6-3 317 11 Texas A&M

    You draft as you should.
Go after quality talent that adds depth to your roster allowing you to have a windfall in cash cause you didn't over pay for a guy that really doesn't fit the system.

My guess, Spencer will be gone via FA and we will use at least a 2nd or a 3rd pick on a DT that adds depth/future replacement.
