That being said some team will probably get suckered into taking him in the first but hopefully it isn't the Vikings.
Wow, none of the ones I've seen (Draft Tek 4th to the Bengals, Kiper 4th to the Bengals, Ourlads 12th to the Vikes) have him dropping at all.
Well then, quit looking at those losers and find a real site.:P

Yeah ... I have not seen a single mock with him dropping anywhere close to out of the first round.

He will probably go early just because some FO will get nervous and reach.

Charles Casserly doesn’t even consider Newton to be a first round pick. He lacks the vision and instincts required and Gabbert just has better overall football sense.

most mocks I'm seeing have one of the 2 (Gabbert, Newton) going no.1, and the other going to the Bills at no.3

I'm not even sure Mallet will drop to 12. And, IMHO, if 3 or more QBs go before us, we're better off grabbing a talent that dropped at another position and trying to get our QB later by moving our 2nd up some.

I hate reaching for players for one simple reason... They're not worth the money they get paid!!! Well I guess I can't say that now with a rookie salary cap most likely being enforced next year. Okay, then my reasoning is you only reach for a player when you have a really huge need at a certain position and are COMPETING for a Lombardi. Do you guys really think we're going to be in contention for even a division title this year? I'm not trying to be pessimistic but rather a realist, and I know for a fact this team won't be ready for a super bowl run until we have starters and depth!

Sure we can get a quarterback in the first and fill a need, but is it really going to be worth it? I simply feel if the guy who's worthy of the 12th overall pick is there based on when they're projected to go and skillset, Newton (?) or Gabbert (I don't like either), then you have to take the most talented player aka BPA. Luckily for us, the talent in this year's draft can fill one of many voids for us (DE, DT, OT, WR, or CB).

If we reach for a quarterback this year in the first, we may very well have a starter (not elite player) for some years and all this I've pulled out my fanny may very well be wrong. But this team is seriously going to wish we didn't reach on Locker, Mallet, Ponder or even Dalton in the first when we're picking at the top of the draft next year and Andrew Luck, Matt Barkley, or Landry Jones are within our reach (Deepest QB draft class I've seen in a while). Just keep in mind the league is locked out, and the Vikings like very few other teams have a new coaching staff and systems that have yet to be installed.

If Leslie really sees that Franchise QB sitting there, then pull the trigger. I just don't see the rationale of forcing yourself into liking someone because he's the only one available. At the end of the day we shouldn't go QB first, Gabbert and Newton are definitely gone. Locker (Tennessee apparently loves him) and Mallet (not hard to fall in love with a arm like that) may very well be off the board by 12 as well. Being realistic, 2 QBs are gone for sure and that still means some stud player is going to fall to us at 12 and may very well contribute day 1.

And 3-5 years down the line I don't want to be the guy saying "Damn we could've got him in the draft, why didn't we? Wait we got that one QB, whats his name again? S*** I forgot." My point being is the QB will come to us if not this year, next year for sure. Just wait one more year, and we'll have a stud QB I can guarantee it.

Historicly the odds of finding a franchise quarterback once you get out of the first round are very slim.
If there are no first round caliber QB's available at 12 I would rather go with a free agent or Webb, and try again next year, if needed.

Moving up in the second would cost another draft pick at a time when we need more draft picks.

Seems like the players we spend an extra draft pick to get don't work out that well. Toby may work out, but I think we could have got him without moving up and losing a pick.

I hope we don't reach for a QB and only take one if he falls to us.

    You guys are killin' me.

Now you are concerned about what Charlie Casserly says?

He has been in and around the league for almost 30 years, and he STILL couldn't find a franchise QB if he started his search in Tom Brady's friggin' living room.

    :P

Think I'm b.s. ing ? Go look at his picks as a GM etc. for the Skins and Texans.

    Charlie Casserly.

    You guys are hilarious!

    sorry.
