Re:Vikings 6th round Draft pick Joe Webb QB from UAB

I think it will be really interesting to see what this guy can do. His physical tools are pretty exceptional. Take a look at the combine page (link this year and you'll see one WR that ran faster than a 4.4 40, so you can see his speed is right there. He's significantly bigger than most of those guys, and he can jump through the roof. He even has long arms and big hands. He stacks up physically against any receiver on the Vikes roster.

I have no idea how he looks actually playing the position, but if he picks up the skills this pick will look smart.
When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]

I think we are in good shape at WR and while he provides us a little flexibility with the roster should he make it ... he has a lot of work to do to jump Jaymar and Reynaud.

I don't hate the pick because we got him later than his projection which makes the value fine, but it is perplexing considering we could have at least taken a flier on another O-lineman.

By the way ... saying RJ Archer is going to be our No. 3? No chance what-so-ever. We will pick someone else up on waivers before that happens I would be willing to bet. He has an outside shot at the practice squad I think.
Not that I am disagreeing with ya but he doesn't have to jump Reynaud. Reynaud is now one of our RBs. He would have ot beat out Johnson.
Reynaud is not a running back ... he has been said he COULD be used at running back. I would think that the drafting of Gerhart would make it very unlikely that Reynaud has any shot of making this squad as a running back. Unless all of a sudden Childress is just done with Young and Johnson.

I don't doubt that we will use him as a WR earlier in his career, but I really think Chiller wants to develop him at QB too. I think he is kind of hiding his true intentions for Webb because he knows if he would just say we were going to develop him at QB, he would get his ass eaten alive for passing on guys like Clausen, McCoy, LeFevour, Kafka, for a guy not from D1 again. I think he has an infatuation with fast athletic QBs who he thinks he can develop into a better passing version of Vick.

I think he is really eying up Terrelle Pryor in the future. He gets a boner just thinking about his 4.4 40 ass.
Joe Webb is from Division I .... oops. Not top flight Division I ... but definitely Division I.

I beg to differ with your first statement. To your other point that's possibly true however, Reynaud did transfer to the RB position and changed his number to 27.

I guess they could have him listed as a "RB" but if he is on the squad I would be willing to bet they are carrying four then (AD, Gerhart and Young as well) which means Webb still has to make himself better than Johnson and Reynaud because they are not going to carry Four RBs and 6 WRs.
They can list him as whatever they like ... but he is a return guy that Webb is going to have to jump to make the roster.
I am not saying that Webb won't ... just saying it seems like a longshot for someone who has been playing QB.

Yeah I'm not too sure how many RBs or WRs they will carry this year. It will be difficult. Last year they carried that 6th WR. Now this year they may carry 3 kickers so it will be tough for him to make the team either way.

Personally I don't think J. Johnson makes the team this year. Ian Johnson will have a hard time too now that they drafted Gerhart. It will be interesting none the less.

Re:Vikings 6th round Draft pick Joe Webb QB from U

    This dude has tremendous upside.

    He has 10.75" hands.

That's a half inch bigger than the next receiver, the second largest among OTs(Charles Brown,) DTs(Terrence Cody,) and DEs(Clifton Geathers,) biggest among TEs, and bigger than all guards, centers, defensive backs, and linebackers at the combine. Brett Favre, famous for his phalanges, has hands which measure 10.375".

At 6'3" 223 with 4.4 speed, a 42.5" vertical, and 11'5" broad jump, if this guy plays half as well as he measures he's gonna be an incredible steal in the sixth round.

You can never have enough "Athletes" on your roster especially if they are smart (Played QB), fast and big.

Here is were I see him when it comes to a roster spot:

    a. WR on the PS.

    or

    b. WR on the PS.

    or

    c. WR on the PS.

Ultimately though, my guess, they put him on the PS and let him learn to run the pro route tree and see what he does.
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

99th pick of the draft is not just any old Joe

Joe Webb can catch, run and throw and is 6-3 and 223 pounds. All of that makes him a very intriguing part of the Vikings’ 2010 rookie class.

He's Joe Webb, a freakishly athletic football player on whom the Vikings took a flier in the sixth round. Smart move.

Neil Callaway was Auburn's offensive coordinator when Bo Jackson won the Heisman Trophy in 1985. Twenty-four years later, he was Alabama-Birmingham's coach when Joe Webb became the first player in NCAA history to post consecutive seasons of 2,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing.

"Bo's the best athlete that's ever been," Callaway said. "But I'm going to say this: Joe's in that same league with Bo."

If that's true at the NFL level, the Vikings just made the finest 199th pick in the draft since the Patriots stumbled upon a man named Brady 10 years ago.
