Re:Vikings 6th round Draft pick Joe Webb QB from U

This kid is what the late rounds of the draft are all about.

It is tough to move from QB to WR, but athletes have made it happen before and this guy clearly is a major league athlete. I would not mind seeing our receivers gain even more depth.

Don't know if he could provide special teams help, but that might not be a bad thing as well.

Re:Vikings 6th round Draft pick Joe Webb QB from UAB

    Analysis
Release: Takes time to get to full speed, but should improve here when coaches teach him to explode from his stance like he does the starting block in the 40. Accelerates past cornerbacks once in stride. Strong enough to handle the jam. Does not have a second gear downfield.

Hands: Huge hands (10.75") and arms (33.75") for the position; can use them to create separation downfield and snatch passes out of the air. Nice body control on the sidelines; able to keep his feet down. Makes tough catches in traffic, and will win jump balls with his height and vertical leap. Needs time on the Jugs machine to secure balls more consistently and tucking them away before making a move. Can track the ball over either shoulder down the sideline.

Route running: Relatively inexperienced as route runner; will round them off and give defenders clues before he makes the cut. Owns the agility to handle any route on the tree, however. Uses his big frame to shield defenders on slants and to muscle cornerbacks off the ball in the end zone. Has the deep speed and foot quickness for double moves and comeback routes to be effective; learning the head fake to sell the first move.

After the catch: Large man who is difficult for defensive backs to drag down, especially when in full stride. Quick enough to make a move to shed cornerback after the catch and gain additional yardage. Has a bit of elusiveness for his size; can stop and use his long rams to push by oncoming defenders. Willing to lower his shoulder and pound defenders on his way out of bounds.

Blocking: Has prototypical body, hands and upper-body strength to be effective downfield, but is very inexperienced here. Must prove he can be explosive and his effort can be consistent in training camp to see time on the field.

Intangibles: Intelligent, competitive field general. Coaches considered him the leader of the team. Carried the workload for a struggling team with few weapons around him. No character issues. Graduated with criminal justice degree in December, and served internship with Jefferson County Sheriff's Office in the summer of 2009.
CBS Sports - Player Profile Webb
This cat wasn't brought in to be a QB, he was brought in to be a WR.

Top 15 WR on most boards and he hasn't even played the position for years. Projected to go in the 4th or 5th round so he isn't a reach.

Just a raw athlete that can help improve the team if he pans out. Additionally, can/will play ST's and if necessary, could be your 3rd QB on your game day roster, thereby saving you from having to Carry 3 QB's.

Might give the staff the flexibility to carry an extra DT, CB, S, or heck, even a OLmen if the situation dictates.

Not a bad pick IMHO, if you are looking at the bigger picture here. If you are looking at him as being a eventual QB, you are missing the mark.

That cat is the kid from William and Mary they brought in as a undrafted FA. (Archer) or if the rumors are true, Ryan Perriloux out of Jackson State.

Re:Vikings 6th round Draft pick Joe Webb QB from UAB

Joe Webb started his career at Alabama-Birmingham as a quarterback, switched to receiver after a "quarterback controversy" in 2007, moved back to quarterback in 2008 and now will enter the NFL as a receiver.

The Vikings selected Webb in the sixth round of the NFL draft with the intent of using him at receiver.

In what aspect? Care to elaborate a little?

Their first 3 picks were decent picks.

    - I like Chris Cook but I will admit I'm not happy about where we got him however, most other CBs were off he board
    - Toby Gerhart is an awesome pick. The guy is a beast. Almost won the Heisman.
    - Griffen is a solid pick with good value for the 4th round.
    - DeGeare and Triplett - Not so great -icks imo. I don't see neither making the rister unless it's STs.
    - Webb is an athletic guy coming in to be a WR. Can be a threat in wildcat formations.
    - Shuler will take the place of a Garrett Mills, Jeff Dugan or even Tahi. I actually like this pick especially where we got him.
    - Ryan D'Imperio will most likely be practice squad but who knows? Maybe he shines and can take Tahi's place.

They may not have taken any fancy players but they went with need and when all is said and done, I'm pretty happy. I think the 5th round was a waste and losing the 3rd rounder wasn't great but for Gerhart I can understand. They had another pick 4 slots after that where they picked Griffen. Nothing lost.

I don't doubt that we will use him as a WR earlier in his career, but I really think Chiller wants to develop him at QB too. I think he is kind of hiding his true intentions for Webb because he knows if he would just say we were going to develop him at QB, he would get his ass eaten alive for passing on guys like Clausen, McCoy, LeFevour, Kafka, for a guy not from D1 again. I think he has an infatuation with fast athletic QBs who he thinks he can develop into a better passing version of Vick.

I think he is really eying up Terrelle Pryor in the future. He gets a boner just thinking about his 4.4 40 ass.

I would have rather seen us draft an OL that we actually intended to use as an OL than taking a conversion project, but I guess the team is so good that we can afford to mess around with projects.

I doubt Chilly would have made this pick if it wasn't for his contract extention. He has time to mess around with projects now.

I don't like this pick ... I kind of like the rest of the draft, but this one definitely perplexes me.

I think we are in good shape at WR and while he provides us a little flexibility with the roster should he make it ... he has a lot of work to do to jump Jaymar and Reynaud.

I don't hate the pick because we got him later than his projection which makes the value fine, but it is perplexing considering we could have at least taken a flier on another O-lineman.

By the way ... saying RJ Archer is going to be our No. 3? No chance what-so-ever. We will pick someone else up on waivers before that happens I would be willing to bet. He has an outside shot at the practice squad I think.

Not that I am disagreeing with ya but he doesn't have to jump Reynaud. Reynaud is now one of our RBs. He would have ot beat out Johnson.
