But it is still depth and a ST player for another year.
If it turns out we fits our system, and picks it up quickly, they can always extend him mid season...

Don't get me wrong I do like this signing, just seems the team has marginally more commitment to Ciuriu while DT (moved on) and Pope looked to be more active players with a few years less time in the league. Also Farwell's tender is still sitting out there waiting for him to sign.

Guess I'm still waiting to see when Vinny will be more active on the special teams.

    I like this signing,
I think Pope will be a very solid backup, possibly even pushing for a starting job.
But the part I like best has to do with this signing and the signing of Hicks.

Our ST's just got a whole hell of alot better I believe, just for signing these two, we get double rewards in a way...

    NICE
    ;D

I was very disapointed with Vinny early on but as the season grew on, his specail teams play was definitly noticed. He played a much better second half. Infact i think he was injured early on.

I really like what we are doin to get good specail team players on our team. Maybe someday we can stop relying on guys like Winfield to save TD's and let him rest during kickoffs. Hicks is another guy we brought in to play specail teams, I've read he's very good on both ends.

I wouldn't say a commitment to Ciuriu but more along the lines of a commitment to Rufus. DT wanted to much money and a long term contract that didn't fit into the bigger plan that included Rufus's eventual role as a primary backup/starter.

I see Pope as nothing more than an insurance policy (one year contract) to make sure that Rufus doesn't have a set back.

As to Ciuriu, not sure, but I really thought he came on like gangbusters as he got more comfortable in his role on ST's.

I think DT wanted a chance to start.
And, he just might earn a starting gig in the 49ers 3-4.

With this new code of conduct it seems perfectly logical to bring the Pope to the team. If he can't conform to the team policies and set a good example what hope is there for the rest of the team? Maybe he can provide us with some divine intervention once in a while too.

Does anyone know Rufus Alexander's status?
Is he going to be back for training camp or what?

    Love the avatar.

I believe he is no track to be back 100% from the last article the News Hound provided.

    A season to forget

    http://ww3.startribune.com/vikingsblog/

“Last year it was tough,” Pope said. “It was tough. But I learned a lot out of that season.”

Asked to elaborate, Pope said: “What I learned is not to ever give up and that’s one thing I never did. … I learned a lot as a person and as a player. One thing that stood out is you have to stick together no matter what.”

Love his attitude about the situation coming out of Miami
