Vikes sign 6'2" 345 lb FA DT Howard Green

The Minnesota Vikings signed free agent DT Howard Green. A 3rd-year NFL player, Green has spent time with Baltimore (2002) and New Orleans (2003-04). Green entered the NFL as a 6th-round draft pick (#190 overall) by Houston in 2002. In 2004 he started 12 of the 14 games he played for the Saints and notched a career-best 53 tackles. As a collegiate player at LSU he was coached by Vikings defensive line coach Karl Dunbar.

Whats up with teh coach they signed as well? I never knew we had a spot to fill.
As far as the signing goes it seems like a nice back-up ffor the DT position.

The Minnesota Vikings have named Derek Mason to the staff as Assistant Defensive Backs coach.
Mason joins the Vikings after 13 seasons coaching on the collegiate level. Mason most recently worked at Ohio University where he helped Frank Solich's staff rebuild the Bobcats program and play in the GMAC Bowl following the 2006 season. The bowl game was the first for Ohio since the 1968 Tangerine Bowl. The team advanced to the Mid-America Conference title game against Central Michigan and ended the season with a 9-5 mark.
Mason has worked on both sides of the ball and assisted on special teams in the return game throughout his coaching career. Mason got his first exposure to the NFL through NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship opportunities with St. Louis in 1996, the NY Giants in 2000 and Oakland in 2006. A 1992 graduate of Northern Arizona University, Mason played DB for the Lumberjacks when Brad Childress served on the staff. Mason was teammates at NAU with current Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Brian Stewart.
