Vikes interested in Chris Carr/Clayton

Looking at the record number of franchise players and others who have been taken themselves off the market by re-signing with their teams, the pool of free agents seems pretty lousy to me.
I’m sure there are some nuggets and bargains in the bunch. One of them fits a weakness the Vikings have had for quite some time: Kick returns.
Tennessee’s Chris Carr and his agent, Buddy Parker, have announced that Carr is preparing as if he will be available when free agency opens Thursday night. The Titans want to sign Carr to a long-term deal, but the sides are far apart, according to this report in the Tennessean.
Carr, who is entering his fifth season, averaged 28.1 yards on 35 kickoff returns. He also averaged 10.1 yards on punt returns. And he’s a reserve cornerback, which is another area where the Vikings are thin.
It is more or less the opinionn of the writer but it does make some sense in term sof filling 2 needs. Unless they feel that Renaud or alison are the answer for the KR/PR.

WHo is the guy from the Jets that got cut. We should sign him. Very good returner with Staters history.

Good to see I am not the only one that thinks CB is an issue. A couple people wanted to fight me on it.

The Vikings do not have any known scheduled visits with free agents at this point but they are putting out feelers today. Included in the list of players the Vikings have expressed an interest are Tampa Bay wide receiver Michael Clayton and Tennessee cornerback Chris Carr. Clayton, however, is set to make his first visit to Detroit.
Clayton, a first-round choice of Tampa Bay in 2004, caught 38 passes for 484 yards and a touchdown in 15 games last season. He had a career-high 80 catches for 1,193 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie in 2004. Clayton also has some experience returning kickoffs. He returned only three last season but had eight kick returns for an average of 21.5 yards in 2007.
Carr is valuable because he would not only give the Vikings depth at cornerback but also is able to return kicks and punts. He averaged 28.1 yards on 35 kick returns last season and 10.1 yards on 32 punt returns. Carr spent his first three seasons with Oakland before joining the Titans last year. He has played in all 16 regular-season games the past four years but has started only six times
