USA Today Mock Drafts - 8 on one page

    http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/draft/2007-mock-draft.htm

8 mock drafts and here's who these "experts" say the Vikings will pick:
    * 3 votes for Adrian Peterson
    * 2 votes for LaRon Landry
    * 2 votes for Robert Meachem
    * 1 vote for Leon Hall (ick!)

    =Z=

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

Seems most of those dimwits think we'll be taking Robert Meachem or Adrian Peterson at 7.

Thanks to PPE for the awesome Sig.

Landry; If they knew Doss would be signed, how many of the 2 who voted for Landry would change their vote, and for whom would they now vote?

    Hall; CB?
Did they know about Winfield, Griffin, Edwards, Gordon when they voted?

When we stop to think about it, most folks behavior isn't perplexing after all !

Do YOU understand the bit about "Best Player Available" and not drafting for need with a high draft-pick?

Not that I agree with the calls these "experts" have made, but drafting for need at 7 is how you end up with Troy Williamson and don't end up with Derrick Johnson.

Perfectly stated Z...you bring back a bad memory
    .
Where do you think we should go?
I agree, BPA, but, who do you personally see as that player at #7?
Me - I just think the Vikes cannot pass on Adrian Peterson if he's there, regardless of us having Chester (whom I think is a warrior).
Pre Doss signing, I had laser lock on Landry.
I like Meachem if they trade down, skeptical about Ginn, wouldn't be crushed if they took Anderson.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent

Who the BPA is will depend on who is taken ahead of the Vikings pick at #7.

In a list of players who could be available (there's NO way that JaMarcus Russell, Calvin Johnson or Joe Thomas will be there), I'd rank them in this order:
    1.
    Brady Quinn
    2.
    Adrian Peterson
    3.
    Patrick Willis
    4.
    Gaines Adams

Whichever one of those is available at #7 is who I would take, were I the Vikings braintrust.
Of course, I come up with that list based on publicly available knowledge, so there may be other things which are seen in film study, personality interviews, etc. to which I am not privy, so my list could be way off.

Yes; I know BPA is not a requirement for making draft picks.
Not drafting for need is an amusing phrase, isn't it?

Anyone can advance their theory by mentioning a case where their theory worked, or another theory failed.
e.g. Williamson or Underwood vs. any other player who perfomed well, IN HINDSIGHT, who was available at the time of that draft selection.

Proof that 'BPA' is the only correct way to make draft selections doesn't exist.

And, most importantly, the Vikings opinion of BPA is different from the general consensus of the BPA.
Thus, Landry appears to no longer be an option at #7 because the BPA approach puts a few, not all, safeties already on the roster ahead of Landry.

The generally understood approach with top10 draft picks is to draft BPA, not for need.
Since Demetrius Underwood was drafted at #29, that is not relevant to this discussion.
Let's just chalk that one up to "stupid Denny" and move on.

The #7 pick is a gift from the Gods.
An opportunity to grab a difference-maker who will be a mainstay of your team for years to come.
    That's BPA.

As to Landry, if the Vikings view him as the BPA when the #7 pick goes up, then that's who they should draft, regardless of the safeties they already have on the roster.
