Something Ltrey said has made me wonder.. Has there ever been an NFL team in the modern era (ie: 1985-2006) that has had two running backs rush for 1,000 yards each in a single season? (Like the Gophers had with Barber III and Maroney, and then Maroney and Gary Russell).

And no, I don't count Warrick Dunn and Mike Vick, cos Vick's an option-QB in it's purest form.

I dug back to 2002 and didn't find any.
Not sure, but I doubt it.

Alstott and Dunn had 846 and 1026, respectively, for Tampa in '98.

    And here's the answer.

    http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/13759

What NFL teams had two 1,000 yard rushers in the same season?

It has been accomplished three times:

    1972 Miami Dolphins
Larry Csonka - 1,117 yards on 213 carries
Mercury Morris - 1,000 yards on 190 carries

    1976 Pittsburgh Steelers
Franco Harris - 1,128 yards on 289 carries
Rocky Bleier - 1,036 yards on 220 carries

    1985 Cleveland Browns
Kevin Mack - 1,104 yards on 222 carries
Earnest Byner - 1,002 yards on 244 carries

    NOTE: 1972 and 1976 were 14-game seasons.
    1985 was a 16-game season.

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

Childress will POUND away with two backs. ie. PETERSON and TAYLOR
You can be sure that he intends to keep Taylor. The other bunch of backs including (something hurts MOORE) will be your change of pace players.
I still say our game will be a ground game to open up the pass and I think he has bought into the latest trend of twobacking.
Trading Taylor is bogus. If you think we can come up with Green, find another way!

So it has been done, but not since 1985.. And I s'pose the only way it would happen with us is if we pounded the ball about 450 times or so and split the carries 50/50 between Chester and All-Day.

No wonder it hasn't been done in a while!

Put MeMo in at QB and have AP, CT, and MM in the backfield with a aplattering of Richardson and Kleinsasser.
