Re:Third worst draft according to Mel Kiper (C-)

I've never been a fan of Mel Kiper. Maybe it's the hair, or maybe it's the fact that I've seldom seen him be right...

That said, I don't hate this draft for what they did, I'm simply disappointed in what they didn't do.

I sincerely hope Cook pans out, because we need help at CB - even with the signing of Sheppard. My only concern is that he's been described as slow...hopefully he proves that false.

And I hope Gerhart blows some people up and motivates Peterson to do the same. I'd love to have a couple of runners that can pulverize LBs and DBs and wear out the Defense. If Gerhart lives up to his billing, we may just have that. Smash mouth football can help cover up poor QB play (Assuming Jackson is starting).

The rest of the depth picks, well, we'll see how many make the team. I like the OL pick because I'm tired of the issue at RG.

I think Kiper wrote this article when he was giving Clausen a reach around...

In my opinion we addressed a lot of positions for the future or in case of emergencies. No sparkle in the draft with a dazzling player like most years but could be very beneficial.

CB - winny is getting old, more variety of people at the position.

RB - Gerhart is an upgrade over ian johnson, good competition with Young.

DE - who knows whats going on with edwards and Griffen was BPA

OG - good to have another body in the OL rotation in case of injury since we lost hicks.

LB - with EJ getting hurt who knows what can happen, so Tripplett is a good pick up. Also good to add a MN boy.

QB/WR - Webb may contribute in returns and possibly receiver at some point in case Harvin isn't able to go at some point.

LB - DImperio or whatever is a ILB converting to FB which could possibly be an upgrade over Tahi.
You did see that our new OLmen played LT his last year. Don't think I would classify him as a G.

Kiper's analysis is about as credible as my Grandmother's. He has been wrong plenty of times and will be wrong plenty more. I use his analysis to go exactly opposite.

Ones from Mel Kiper, doubly so.

I see Chris Cook panning out a lot like Cedric Griffin. Neither one is elite talent or measurables. Neither one is great in man to man coverage, but both fit the cover two and can be effective in our scheme and can be physical with receivers and in run support.

Remember Cedric had a bit of a shaky start to his career but by the end of the second your he became a pretty consistent performer, and I consider him our best cover DB.
That's how I see this kid as well. He's pretty big for a corner, if he's fluid in his hips, he should do well in the cover2. Should be good in run support and limiting YAC.

It will be interesting to see how our CB stable works itself out. Winfield, Griffin, Sheppard, Sapp, Cook and Allen. Do they all make it? Allen and Sapp competing to make the team this year?

The Chris Cook pick is the only pick from this draft I didn't like.

Don't think he'll amount to much in the NFL, IMO.

I think you give Whinny to much credit.

My guess, based on his injury issues the last 2 years, coupled with the fact that he's not a very good CB as it relates to pass coverage, which has gotten worse by the by, and he might be the cat working for a job this year.

Wouldn't suprise me in the least to see the following 5 CB's crack the roster....

    a. Griff
    b. Lito
    c. Benny
    d. Asher
    e. Cook.

Gonna be interesting to see if they do opt to carry the 6th CB, but not sure how they are gonna do that and carry the extra Koff specialist (to compensate for Shortwells deficiencies), squeeze all the WR's in again this year and figure out how they will get more reps out of thier DL.
