Is there anyone in the draft you would be happy if we traded up and got
For me it would be Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio State*
Looks like he's just what we need.
* led DL
40 - 4.67
Bench - 37*
V. Jump - 35*
B. Jump - 10' 5" *
From http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/vernon-gholston?id=756
Gholston enrolled at Ohio State, becoming the only player from Michigan on the squad. He turned down scholarship offers from Michigan, Michigan State and Iowa to join the Buckeyes. The coaching staff immediately began giving him a crash course in playing the "Leo" position, which incorporates dropping into pass coverage and rushing the passer from either side of the field.
He posted 37 tackles (25 solo) and was a terror in the backfield
second nationally with 14 sacks
A team like the jets could be a dance partner for
our 1st and a 3rd and a newly aquired 5-6th
We will still have 7 draft picks and a monster DE.

Re: Is there anyone in the draft you would be happy if we traded up and got
The only players I would trade up for are Gholston and Chris Long, but they will probably be the first two picks in the draft. The cost of trading up into those top 10 picks is just too great. Go look up a trade value chart and see how much it would cost to go from 17 to 1, its ridiculous. Its not going to happen. It is much more likely that we would trade down, if it all.
I do however, expect that we will move around a lot in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds. Last year the FO showed that they are not afraid to go after the guys they want, while also being as smart as possible and acquiring more picks both in the current, and future years.

Re: Is there anyone in the draft you would be happy if we traded up and got
If one of the Longs or Gholston dropped and we made a reasonable trade I'd be happy.
However, it doesn't seem like any of those players will leave the top 10, or maybe even the top 5.
I m like a Ja Rule poster, cause I'm off the wall.

I wouldnt mind it at all if the staff trades up a couple spots in the first to grab a guy they think won't fall. After that, I bet they will maneuver shrewdly and either trade atleast one down or up.

VikesFan787, Thanks for the awesome sig!

Why not go after the creme de la creme of the draft with them.
I much rather have the premeire pass rusher in the draft than two 3rd rounders that may not trun into starters in various positions.

I anticipate us trading up in the draft, although I would be very surprised if we traded up in the first round.
Instead I expect us to trade around so that we have two second rounders and two third rounders and whatever is left in 4-6.Zeus wrote:
When are you going to realize that picking out the 20 bad throws this year and ignoring the 300 good ones does not make your point?

I would rather not pay ~$25 million in guaranteed money to a guy who has never played a down in the NFL. Anyone can be a bust. Our last two drafts have shown that the current administration is great at finding quality players in the draft. I would be much more comfortable drafting 4 guys in rounds 1-3 than gambling the future of our team on a single draft pick."tgorsegner" wrote:

EDIT: I agree with NodakPaul. That seems to be the FO's strategy of late; target good players in the 2nd and 3rd round and do what it takes to get the most value out of our picks.
