I said it before. Releasing Smith so early was a mistake. If we sign Phillips or a FA, thier agent is going to eat us alive. Williams( cincy) must be licking his lips. We need him and outside of the draft and giants FS...we don't have many options....We willpay thru the nose for him.
You've said it multiple times and I still ain't listening.

    Comeon my friend.
Do you really think they made that move without at least having not only a primary plan, but a couple of backups as well.

It isn't like we are dealing with a semi-pro staff here.

LOL! Plans are nice but can always backfire.

    1. A plan to target a certain FA or FA's doesn't mean they will sign a contract with you & they very well could sign with another team before you even get a chance to visit with them. FA's can sign with whatever damn team they chose too.

    2. A plan to draft certain players doesn't mean that that player or players will even be available when it comes your turn to pick. And if they are, you have no way of knowing if that player can even make the transition from college to the pros. If they do, there is still no guarantee they will play at the same level they did in college or how long it will take.

    3. Never count your chickens before they hatch.

    4. Granted the FA pool is small again as it was last year & players will probably get overpaid. But would you rather overpay a stud player that will have a n immediate impact on your team or would you rather overpay a second stringer or mediocre player? (*cough* Shiancoe *cough*)

    5. No matter what players are signed this offseason, anyone can simply say "See, I told you they had a plan". There's no way to prove or disprove they had a plan to target that specific player.

That would be the backup plan my friend (ala B-wade instead of Welker/Curtis)

    no its not good.
Doss is gone, now Tank, that leaves us absolutely needing a starting safety.
We have Sharper and Frampton left.
Hmmm, now all you cats are catching on to what the Marrdro has been saying for over a month.

Think Maybe S is now a priority both in FA and in the draft.

No wait, lets go ahead and hope that one or both say, Smith isn't cut and trade all of our picks for one player.

    ;D

Here is the plan that the staff will follow.

    Sharper
    Frampton
    FA Vet (Wilson/Williams/Knight)
Rookie (2008 draft 1rst round) Reggie Smith

    Still leaves an opening.
Either sign Doss (they offered him a multi year contract in 2006) or move Griff back to S and start McCauley or Gordon.

Draft a Rookie CB or better yet, sign a CB from the CB heavy FA pool (Trufant/Florence/Reeves).

Even with all that movement, we will have a better secondary than we had last year.

Why not trade him. You can't tell me that a team like oakland who is trying to move their Safty would not consider him to offset the cost of a Huff? At the very least it lowers the picks we would use to get( huffs contract is preety high but we will be reponsible for the none gauratee part).
Do you really think that he was that good that a team (well maybe the Lions
    ;D) would trade for him.

That is what keeps getting lost in all of this.
    He was a decent S.
It isn't like we really lost something/someone that is really great.
We'll see this year how much he really meant

    Thanks for the nice comment.
It would be boring around here if everyone agreed with everyone.
Fun to have a bit of banter back and forth.
Heck, sometimes I can even be convinced I am wrong.

Not very often, but it does happen.
