Sporting News Posts 5 Mock Drafts

    Kindof interesting approach.

The Chimp actually took a safety for us.

Our mock drafts are all over the map
    Posted: April 24, 2007

Maybe the first round of the 2007 NFL draft will be like a middle-aged man: thin up top, thick in the middle and full on the back end. Maybe the draft will be like a roller coaster -- slow to develop (it has been years since the Senior Bowl, no?), then full of ups and downs and twists and turns that leave you out of breath but eager for another ride. Maybe this draft will be like a good M. Night Shyamalan movie (back before his head got so big) -- you're on the edge of your seat the whole time, and by the end you have to rewatch the beginning and middle to figure out how you ended up where you did.

Maybe, maybe, maybe. Only one thing is certain: This draft ain't going to be normal -- at least not if it goes anything like our mock drafts. That's right, drafts, plural. We did three, each with a different twist -- one with Sporting News team correspondents (who knows their teams better?), one with five-star bloggers on SportingNews.com (who thinks they know their teams better?), and one with NFL projects editor Vinnie Iyer, whose impartial eye mapped out the "perfect" mock draft. Then our War Room scouts insisted on playing around with trades in yet another mock, and -- just for fun -- we drew names from a helmet in mock No. 5.

    Vikings: Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma

Peterson's big-play ability would make it impossible for the Vikings to pass him up. Chester Taylor broke down in the final month of the season under the strain of 300-plus carries. Peterson would provide a quicker alternative to Taylor's grind-it-out style.

    7. Vikings: WR Ted Ginn, Ohio State

Chosen by jameeman: "The Vikings need many things, but the dearth of playmaking wide receivers is something that just cannot be overcome with smoke, mirrors and the current stable of average pass catchers. Ginn is certainly raw, and he'll drop a pass here and there, but focus can be taught ... 4.30 speed and rare athletic ability cannot. In addition, Ginn's flat-line speed is complemented by the ability to make razor-sharp cuts and gain more than ample separation. Ginn can track and high-point the ball, make good 'on the fly' adjustments to poorly thrown balls -- an inevitability with 2nd year signal caller in Tarvaris Jackson under center. Most importantly, Ginn will provide the fledgling passer with a legit vertical threat.

    7. Vikings: Leon Hall, CB, Michigan. Taking Quinn would be a mistake when the team already might have something special in talented 2006 second-rounder Tarvaris Jackson. The secondary needs improved depth to help an atrocious pass defense.

    7. Vikings: Brandon Meriweather, S, Miami
Sure with Saturday would get here.

Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

Spielman was on KFAN this morning popping wood over Leon Hall.
He said the Vikings organization believes there are 8 blue chip players in this draft and that they'll take whichever one falls to them.

He also told the morning crew to start spreading rumors that AP was having shoulder problems and that CJ had issues to work out as well.

    Uh oh!
You've just annoyed all the amateur GMs who want to trade up or trade down, and who have devised a few dozen trade scenarios with a half-dozen teams!

    {sarcasm on}
How could (the Vikings &) Spielman be so naive as to believe there are 8 great players in the collegiate football draft pool?
{ sarcasm now on high level setting } Everyone with a brain
    knows there are only 6,

{ sarcasm level back to normal } and they will be gone by the time the Vikings pick at slot 7.
    {sarcasm off }
    :
When we stop to think about it, most folks behavior isn't perplexing after all !

I see 9 blue chippers in this draft, this is how I rank them not a prediction of where they will be drafted.

    1. Calvin Johnson
    2. Jamarcus Russell
    3. Joe Thomas
    4. Adrian Peterson
    5. Gaines Adams
    6. Laron Landry
    7. Amobi Okoye
    8. Brady Quinn
    9. Leon Hall

I see the Viking taking Adrian Peterson because he will be there and will be the best player available.

What we've got here is failure to communicate.

    Ginn-
No thanks, we already have T Will.
I hope he can come around. :
    Hall- Hall No! :P
Meriweather- Too many "alleged" issues; won't pass muster with Chilly.
    Way too early anyway.
    :P
Go AP and see Foreman live again! Or at least Robert Smith. ;D
