    Spielmans Draft History

OK, Mr. A brought up a good discussion point in another thread that I spent a little (very little) researching to see what it would bring.

Using Draft History.com to find out who he had a hand in drafting and Football Reference DB to find out how many years they played, the following applies.

    73 Players Drafted
    31 Hits (16 were defensive Mr. A)
    32 Misses
10 N/A's (These are guys on the Vikings roster now)

    2010
    Chris Cook DB N/A
    Toby Gerhart RB N/A
    Everson Griffin DE N/A
    Chris DeGeare G N/A
    Nathan Triplett LB N/A
    Joe Webb QB N/A
    Mickey Shuler TE N/A
    Ryan D'Imperio LB N/A
    2009
    Percy Harvin WR Hit
    Phil Loadholt T Hit
    Asher Allen DB Hit
    Jasper Brinkley LB Hit
    Jamarca Sanford DB Hit
    2008
    Tyrell Johnson DB N/A
    John David Booty QB N/A
    Letroy Guion DT Hit
    John Sullivan C Hit
    Jaymar Johnson WR Miss
    2007
    Adrian Peterson RB Hit
    Sidney Rice WR Hit
    Marcus McCauley DB Miss
    Brian Robison DE Hit
    Aundrae Allison WR Miss
    Rufus Alexander LB Miss
    Tyler Thigpen QB Hit
    Chandler Williams WR Miss
    2003
    Eddie Moore LB Miss
    Wade Smith T Hit
    Taylor Whitley G Miss
    Donald Lee TE Hit
    J.R. Tolver WR Miss
    Corey Jenkins DB Miss
    Tim Provost T Miss
    Yeremiah Bell DB Hit
    Davern Williams DT Miss
    2002
    Seth McKinney C Hit
    Randy McMichael TE Hit
    Omare Lowe DB Hit
    Sam Simmons WR Miss
    Leonard Henry RB Miss
    2001
    Jamar Fletcher DB Hit
    Chris Chambers WR Hit
    Travis Minor RB Hit
    Morlon Greenwood LB Hit
    Shawn Draper T Miss
    Brandon Winey T Miss
    Josh Heupel QB Miss
    Otis Leverette DE Hit
    Rick Crowell LB Miss
    2000
    Todd Wade T Hit
    Ben Kelly DB Miss
    Deon Dyer RB Miss
    Arturo Freeman DB Hit
    Ernest Grant DT Miss
    Jeff Harris DB Miss
    1999
    J.J. Johnson RB Miss
    Rob Konrad RB Hit
    Grey Ruegamer C Hit
    Cecil Collins RB Miss
    Bryan Jones LB Miss
    Brent Bartholomew P Miss
    Jermaine Haley DT Hit
    Joe Wong G Miss
    1998
    John Avery RB Miss
    Patrick Surtain DB Hit
    Kenny Mixon DE Hit
    Brad Jackson LB Hit
    Larry Shannon WR Miss
    Lorenzo Bromell DT Hit
    Scott Shaw G Miss
    Nathan Strikwerda C Miss
    John Dutton QB Miss
    Jim Bundren G Miss
What I found more interesting than if he was successfull with defensive or offensive players (as Mr. A pondered), was how bad he was at resigning players.

Alot of the guys that are on this list suprised me that they started their career in Miami.

Doesn't bode well for us that are hoping he resigns our key players this year.
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

I'd imagine he's referring to the statement you made saying Spielman seems to do better acquiring D, and is pretty iffy with offens.e

Just because you don't know there name doesn't mean the can't play ball.

Again, I went through this pretty fast. Criteria for a hit was to be in the league for 4 years or more, to be a miss was, well, less than that.

I can't remember, but it was something you said about he only made good picks on the defensive side or something like that.

Again, it was a good idea.

You'd be correct, but I didn't take it as a statement, but more of as a comment that would make a good thread.

I don't think I've ever seen someone list all the draft picks our VP of Player personnel has drafted.

    LOL, you slay me.

I wasn't saying he was some sort of guru drafter my friend. I just wanted to see who he drafted and if they were successfull with a minor interest into how many were on the defensive side of the ball or offensive side of the ball.

Why ohhhhhhh whyyyyyyyy are you now trying to turn this into something other than that.

What I found more interesting than if he was successfull with defensive or offensive players (as Mr. A pondered), was how bad he was at resigning players.

Alot of the guys that are on this list suprised me that they started their career in Miami.

Doesn't bode well for us that are hoping he resigns our key players this year.
Good god there are alot of nobody's on that list. Doesn't instill a whole lot of confidence.
Just because you don't know there name doesn't mean the can't play ball.

Again, I went through this pretty fast. Criteria for a hit was to be in the league for 4 years or more, to be a miss was, well, less than that.
Well, I just said nobody's, not bad or good players. Just nobody's.

I assume you went in order of rounds? so the top picks are:

    Cook
    Harvin
    Johnson
    Peterson
    Eddie Moore
    Seth McKinney
    Jamar Fletcher
    Todd Wade
    JJ Johnson
    John Avery

Outside of Vikings, that's a pretty sad group of players.

And I"m not accusing you of that, I'm simply stating facts.

Spielman has sucked at drafting. Outside of hitting with our top picks, and the odd good player like Donald Lee, Chris Chambers or Patrick Surtain (really the only decent players who aren't vikings on that list) his drafting record is god-awful. Alot of mediocre players can stay in the league for 4+ years, and when they highlight your draft classes, that's rough.

Simply stating that, not accusing you of anything.
