Should the Vikings trade up, down, or stay put with their No.17 pick?

Our DE need is pretty obvious...if possible, it would be nice to land a top end talent in our biggest need.
That competition and/or depth is needed at S, QB, OT and DT is pretty widely agreed upon around here as well, and all could end up being BPA picks.
But if the talent remaining doesn't put value in our needs, maybe trading down would be a great idea.

Just so happens, that the value of ATL's two second round picks exactly equals the value of the Vikings' No.17. [Nos. 37 and 48 are worth 530 + 420 = 950]
This scenario would still give ATL two first round picks and OAK's second (3rd in the 2nd) assuming the MeAngelo trade goes through.
They could upgrade both lines and get a QB, and all in the first 34 picks.

This would give us no picks in the first, but 3 in the second (the 6th, 16th, and 17th) and 2 in the third (10th and 18th), and the extra picks later to move up some if needed.
I think that there is some nice talent available in the second and third rounds, and at better value financially and pick wise.

    Possible 2nds (pick 3):
Kenny Philips (prob. not, but maybe), Dajuan Morgan, Kentwaan Balmer, Lawrence Jackson, Trevor Laws, Early Doucet, James Hardy, Gosder Cherilus, Sam Baker, Henne or Flacco

    Possible 3rds (pick 2):
Josh Johnson at QB/slash?, Jordy Nelson WR, Craig Steltz, Zbikowski (maybe I spelled it right this time), Thomas DeCoud, Jamar Adams, or Quentin Demps at S; Cousins, Benedict or Hills at OT; Chris Ellis speed rusher; Sullivan C etc

I would prefer we keeped our 1st round pick unless we got an already proven, big starter for it, which won't happen, i wouldn't mind trading up so we can try to get Gholston or someone, DEPENDING on what we would have to give up, and it would probably be a lot, im not so sure that we would be willing to give up enough for a pick like Miami's...I have no problem with us sticking at our current pick though.

It depends on how far Chris Long drops if he does.
I would think Miami will draft him because they could use an end of his caliber and also he played in a 3-4 defense in college.

I was all for moving up and drafting Gholston with the 6-7th pick but the more I see out of harvey and Campbell, th emore i like. I saw we either stay put or
trade down. If harvey is gone by 17th trade down and grab Campbell at the begining of the 2nd.

I would like us to turn some of those 3rds and 3th into an extra 2nd and third however.

I usually like BPA approach, but I would like to see them trade down a few spots and still get a top notch DE while picking up a 2nd or 3rd rounder. They always help but it's tough to find someone interested unless you're in the top 10...

    I voted move down.
Good chance all the top DEs and DTs and OTs are gone by our pick, and the value for S is better later, and we currently have two starters.
Same kind of goes with WR and QB...better value later.
After the top 7 or maybe 10 guys, Longs, Gholston, McFadden, Dorsey, Ellis the talent evens out a lot through the 2nd, maybe into the third.

Re: Should the Vikings trade up, down, or stay put with their No.17 pick?

    Stay put.

Based on team needs ahead of us, there will be a couple of players there that could/should provide immediate help.

Kenny Philips - Best S in the draft
Merling - Take him regardless of his herrnia.
    He'll be ready by camp
Chris Williams - Either Williams or Cherilus will be there.

If one of these guys aren't there then something happened at the top of the draft that will allow for someone else to fall i.e. Harvey, Clady, Baker etc.
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg
