Re: SharperImage Picks the vikings picks

I wouldn't be too thrilled if they drafted 3 WRs again in 2008.
We have plenty of young, potential ridden reivers right now...not to say we don't need more help, but 3 more rooks seems a bit much.
That's just my opinion though, and what do I know.

I am still holding my breath for Kenny Phillips to be available at 17.

As far as Malcolm Kelly, he is a big guy and could be a good end zone threat.
But if we are going to go WR in round 1 (which I don't think we would) then I would expect us to pick up a speed guy - and Kelly simply isn't one.
And I am not sure Groves will go that high.

I would like to see Kelly fall to us but don't think he will get past the Bills and could possibly go higher (I.e. Oakland or the Jets).

I do have Groves avail at 17 but think we will go with a guy like Reggie Smith, CB/S.

    2)
    Devin Thomas WR, Michigan state.

    A very interesting
prosptect that might be a good value in the second round if he gets that far.

Thomas, who has already filed the necessary paperwork with the league office, is expected to be selected in the first or second round, according to a source. He likely will make a formal announcement next week.

    3)
    Charles Godfrey, CB Iowa
Couldn't find much on him other than some stuff in a few chat boards.
It appears he could pay S as well.
Do you have a scouting report?

The value board I use actually lists him as a good pick in the 3rd round.

    4)
    Owen Schmitt, West Virginia
A very interesting prospect as well. I really like this one.
The value board I use has him as a 3rd round pick and probably first FB taken.
It would be a steal to get him here I think.
    http://www.usatoday.com/sports/colle...-schmitt_x.htm

    5)
    John Sullivan C, Notrw Dame

Another guy slated to go higher.
Value board has him in the 3rd round.

    6) Sam Keller QB, Nebreska

ESPN has him ranked as the 12th best QB in the draft.
    Very nice prospect.
    http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/...ler_sam00.html

He is slated to go in the 4th round.
He looks interesting but I don't see him making it this far.
Problem will be that because FA market is so bleak most teams will be reaching (IMHO) for QB's earlier than they should go, ala TJ.

Most fans won't understand it when things like that happen.
They will only beeeyyyatch cause he is taken to early cause some guy with greased hair said he went to early.

    7) Marcus Smith WR, New Mexico

I like his production and size.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player...layerId=148214

    Very nice my friend.
I kindof like how you got guys in positions lower than they are ranked as we did with McCauley last year.

    Again, Very nice.

This is the second guy to mention Scmitt and the second time I have researched him.

There aren't alot of teams that use the "Pure FB" approach anymore so maybe that is why they are ranked so low on the value charts.

Good thing for us, is that they aren't used by many teams anymore and we might have a chance at one of the top 5 FB's in this draft.

This is one of the guys I was looking at before I found out about Scmitt.

    http://www.hogwired.com/ViewArticle....&Q_SEASON=2006

I would be happy with either one.

Im really hoping for Devin Thomas and OWen schmitt.. they will help this offense out alot..Devin thomas is a solid number 2WR and Rice can be #3 or #1 if we dont bring in someone..and we all no Tony richardson wont be here forever .. so thats why we need owen schmitt

I would love that draft. I would prefer Groves over Kelly though, since i think we'll probably get a FA WR. Either way, I think Groves would have more of an impact, especially if we get Thomas in the second round. I have a huge man crush on Thomas, I think he is going to be a beast, he is the one player I really hope the Vikings get.

The one thing I would change is instead of a CB, I would take a safety in the third round, specifically Craig Steltz from LSU (or Josh Barrett from Arizona). I think we need more safety help, and we have a bunch of young CBs.

Schmitt is an absolute beast, there isn't much else to be said about him, except I think he will be gone by the fourth. Also, we have 2 third round picks, so we could take him with our second one.

I agree we need to take a C and a project QB in the later rounds, though I think we need another HB since Moore is probably leaving, and we already have a project WR in Allison. Though I would take Kevin O'Connell over Sam Keller, because O'Connell is bigger, faster, and Keller has some big character issues, and that is an absolute desl breaker to me for a QB.

    My draft would look like:
    1. Quentin Groves DE
    2. Devin Thomas WR
    3. Craig Steltz S
    3. Owen Schmitt FB
    4. Doug Legursky C
    5. Nelson Coleman MLB
    6. Kevin O'Connell QB
    7. Lance Ball RB

If Malcolm Kelly falls to us we have to pick him no matter what, even if we sign a free agent receiver. None of the receivers in free agency are really true # 1's which I think Kelly has the potential to be. Him and Sidney Rice would be a great receving corp in the future. I am not the big of a fan of Quentin Groves. I think he is a little so small and whenever I have watched him he makes one big play and then doesn't show up the rest of the game. Derrick Harvey would be a better pick if he is still avalible.

If we don't get a WR in the first round Thomas would be a great pick in the second. I am extremly high on this guy and he has tons of potential. He is a gamebreaker.

I really like Charles Godfrey. He has tons of potential. I think he will shine in the combine and will be gone by the third round. Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie out of Tenn St. would be a good pick there. He might be a steal.

Owen Schmitt would be a great pick with our 2nd third round pick. Richardson won't be he forever so he would be a great replacement.

Haven't really paid attention to John Sullivan but it would be smart to get Birk's replacement.

I don't like Sam Keller at all. Don't really see him having much upside. I would rather get a guy that has alot of upside like Josh Johnson San Diego or Kevin O'Connell San Diego St.

Marcus Smith would be a good pick in the 7th but I don't think we will pick two WR's in this draft.

    Overall pretty good job SI
