I for one, like Rob alot but don't think he is going to be the starter. I only have a small sample size (mostly cause Ray stayed pretty healthy) but when he was in there at the LDE position in the base, where he was facing a T and TE continually, he not only couldn't stop the run, but he wore down and his pressure/production went down wrt getting to the QB.
Write it down. If Ray leaves( which I don't think he will), we will miss him. The guy reacts very well to the ball. I believe him to be ELITE in this regards. He has an explosive first step, in the top 5 in the game, including Allen. From what I can tell his problem has been his pass rush assortment of moves i.e... he doesn't have enough. He is a speed rush to the routside guy and needs to develop a bullrush, spin move, club. All he really uses at this time is a swim move. If we lose him, our team is taking a step back.... I would like to point out that i really wished we spent the money for Peppers when we could have gotten him.
Elite first step? Really? Then why didn't he have more sacks? He won't have it as easy as he did anywhere else after playing next to the D-Line we have here in Minnesota. Edwards never EVER faced a double team and he put up mediocre sack numbers year after year after year. Good riddance...don't buy into the media hype. Washington did with Haynesworth and look where that got them. Just saying...

Problem is most QBs don't line behind the Tackle and so are more than one step away
Always makes me laugh when people consider a player to be outstanding just because he's a FA. Some FAs need to be kept and others let go, Edwards falls into the latter category.

No doubt! He is going to go elsewhere and get overpaid and we'll hear some other team's fans griping about him in 3-4 years saying 'we never should have taken him'. It's like our investment on Bernard Berrian - ok player, but we definetely overpaid for him so it was not much a 'value' pick up. Ray Edwards has the talent to be an NFL starter, but he is not good enough to over-spend for.

Re: Robison Wants Edwards To His Money And Move Out

I think if B-Rob earns the starting role he'll do far better than most expect against the run. Even on the left. Yes he's a touch undersized, but there's no way anyone can say he's lacking core strength. Big 12 shot put champion anyone? And someone correct me if I'm wrong but there's no weight classes in shot put is there?

Re: Robison Wants Edwards To His Money And Move Out

Never thought of B-Rob as an every down guy, not sure he is starter material, if we could pick up a decent LDE FA (are then any out there??) then i'd be happier but if we have to go with Robison and Griffen (who has potential to be a started, imho) then so be it, onward we'll go.

Re: Robison Wants Edwards To His Money And Move Out

i agree plus Robison was the more polished run stopper in college than he was pass rusher, so his early struggles could have been him just trying to much to get to the QB as the seasons have come along he's shown good to great pass rushing skills thanks to learning behind Allen, and he can let his natural run stopping ability to shine.

Yes theres going to be plays where he gets taken out because hes a bit under sized but honestly he plays around 260-270 which is only a few pounds like 5-10 off what most LE play.

Re: Robison Wants Edwards To His Money And Move Out

I really don't think there is any evidence to say that Robison is any better or worse than Edwards. Edwards narrowly won the job over him a few years ago primarily because he had 1 more year of service under his belt, but I have no idea why people think Robison is bad vs. the run. He was a third down specialist over the past couple years, so we really haven't seen him against the run on a consistent basis.

It seems as though people are insinuating that Robison is a step down from Ray Edwards, but I feel like Ray Edwards was never really that good in the first place. I mean, he was a better #2 DE option than Darrion Scott or Kenechi Udeze ever were, but he wasn't an awesome player by any means either.

Robison should do fine at that spot. He has a big-time motor and I've wanted to see him get regular action instead of Edwards for a while now...

On Mike & Mike, which is a very reputable ESPN talk show, Edwards was listed as the #2 FA hitting the market. He may be more valuable, than you think. Especial given that you hate him.

I think Ray will be a "valuable" FA...but I think whomever signs him will over pay him. I've long said that Ray is GOOD, but not GREAT.

I'm not sure how well Robison will step into Rays shoes....but it'll be interesting to see.

Maybe they'll finally be selling Robison jerseys in the store. I've been wanting to get one ever since he was a rookie, but the only way to get one was have a custom one made.
